| This guy is one lazy sod. He looked devastating at the start of the season and now just goes missing, we seem to carry him for large parts of the game and then he has one good run. He needs to get more involved! I am now changing my mind about putting him at prop. Some of the guys out there today gave 110%, I did my feelings he did. Good game to watch but we fell just short. Bring on the Robins!

| I completely agree and I made a similar thread about him after the Wakefield game and was shot down.
He started the season like a house on fire and has been AWOL ever since.
He now seems terrified of making the hard carries and getting stuck in. He puts in one big hit a match (which is usually late anyway!) and gets a few claps from our younger fans though and all seems to be forgotten.
Maybe the trouble at the Huddersfield game which i think involved his family has affected his mind a bit, I hope not though.
With Hauraki back and Vidot soon back it seems as if he will be out of the starting 13. He is creating a dilemma for Watson and Sheens because we cant afford to have a 17 stone back row forward being used as nothing more than a dummy runner for 80 minutes every match. Something needs to change and I still thin the only option is to move him to prop or 13 like he played in the NRL.

| Ben Murdoch Masila is beginning to really frustrate me. He has all the tools in his locker to scatter any defensive line and he's choosing to go hiding when it gets a bit aggressive in the middle. The Walnuts, and Krasniqui all tried but they just aren't cut out for this level of Rugby which was hugely noticeable yesterday. Hauraki is back but back to his old self, where he seems to be attracting errors and flirting with penalties yet again he a sucker for this. Our pack got battered yesterday and the person you look for to lead us and to give us a bit of steel goes hiding. To galvanise our pack, Masila needs to be in the game making consistent yards up the middle, using him on the fringes just isn't doing him or Salford any good. If we utilised him at Prop then the pressure on Griffin and Koppy would be eased. The unforced errors we turned over was amateurish and quite embarrassing at times. Catalans, on the other hand, weren't firing on all cylinders either but having been gifted possession ample time in key areas of the field, well they were never going to lose this game. I'm frustrated as that's another Two point game we were capable of winning.

| Missing? Watch our tries from Saturday, how many came as a result of his aggressive dummy running which subsequently attracted numerous Catalan defenders to him. Whether you like how he is being used by Watson and Sheens it's almost certainly a deliberate ploy. It seems frustrating because he isn't taking the ball up and doing the hard yards, but to suggest he has gone "missing" is ridiculous IMO.

Okay JGR I'll hold my hands up. Lets give credit when/where it's due. He's the BEST dummy runner we've ever had. But where is he in defense? Resting for the next flurry of dummy runs?

He made 27 tackles on Saturday and 8 from marker. He also made more metres going forward than Hauraki did, who saw much more of the ball. Talk about over reaction.

JGR Catalans had a lot of ball. 27 tackles is average at best. Hauraki is a liability at the minute he's a penalty whore. I was a Stand-off and I averaged 25 no problem. 27 tackles isn't a phenomenal amount of work rate for a backrower especially off a minimum amount of 40 sets of six. We need more from him.

Here's the stats:
Catalans had 128 carries compared to our 147
BMM made 5 carries - compared to other back rowers - Hauraki 8, Jones 7, Flanagan 6
He made 51m averaging 10.2. That's second highest average gain in the team after Jones. Compared to other back rowers - Jones 103m av 14.71, Flanagan 27m av 4.5, Hauraki 31m av 3.88
He made 27 tackles. Compared to other back rowers - Flanagan 35, Hauraki 14, Jones 9. Our stand off made 7 tackles
He gave away 1 penalty. Compared to other back rowers - Flanagan 0, Jones 0, Hauraki 0

| In terms of contribution to/stats for the season......
BMM is 7th highest tackler (Flanagan and Jones both above him)
1st in missed tackles
8th in carries (Jones above him)
6th in metres made (Jones above him)
5th in average gain (no forward above him)
3rd in tackle busts (behind Carney and Jones)
7th in clean beaks (no forward above him, Flanagan next highest forward)
4th in errors (same as Jones)
1st in penalties (4 more than next highest)
So I would say it's a mixed bag overall. Considering we're only half way through his first season in the country he's doing well. Not amazingly and I'm sure he could do more but he's far from our worst performer in my view

| He also has 3 assists which makes him joint top forward with Lee and Tomkins with only Dobson, GOB, Lui and (believe it if not) Sau above them
Right will stop boring on about stats now

If you read my original post regarding Masila, I mentioned his locker was full of many tools at his disposal. I'm not disputing his yardage making, I'm disputing that we're not getting the best out of him out on the fringes. I believe we'd get more out of him at Prop tearing up the middle and it would ease pressure off Kopzcak and Griffin. That's all.

| No you did not: in fact you contradict the idea of using him "tearing up the middle" by posting "he's choosing to go hiding when it gets a bit aggressive in the middle". I did read it and whinced at your comments.
