| 'Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.'
Life of Reason, George Santayana
So as this new age dawns and greatness beckons what as a long suffering Salford fan are your:
1: Worst moments? For me, the tonking at Bradford, or possibly shipping 70 odd points at home to Castleford?
2: Best memories? (though if it's not ending Wigan's cup run I'll be surprised)
3: Demonstrations of Salford spirit? How about singing Sloop John B non-stop at Murrayfield while Warrington stuffed us?

| 1: Worst moments? One of two occasions, getting to the play offs only for the team to bottle it (it is just about the only time I can honestly say a Salford team has not had my total respect) and when the occasion of the last game at the Willows got to everyone. Think the emotion was too much for too many of the people present and on the pitch, the only saving grace was that a real honest legend of the game scored the last competitive try at the hollowed ground.
2: Best memories? Webster nearly killing Critchley, Chris Tauro handing someone off with such power they did a backwards flip from the force, Andrew Dunemann shadow boxing behind a load of players to wind up David Solomona in 2006.
3: Demonstrations of Salford spirit - Offiahs drop goal, against Huddersfield in 2006 when we were hitting them that hard in defence they went backwards until they were in goal and dropped the ball for us to score (first 'safety' in RL I think - Gridiron ref), singing Au Revoir when we'd nilled Les Cat again in 2006.

| 1) Losing the last game at the Willows by such a large margin in front of such a big crowd.
2) Although nothing can beat ending Wigan's cup run, John Wilshere's penalty goal to take the championship final v Celtic Crusaders to golden point was a great moment.
3) After having already been relegated in 2007, playing Warrington in the last game of the season, and singing "Stand up/Sit down if you love Salford" for approximately 25minutes in the second half. Also notable mention to "We'll never dry" at Hilton Park

| 1. Worst moment has to be losing to Sheffield at Headingly when we were mentally preparing for our trip to Wembley. We threw it away!!
2. Best moment apart from beating Wigan in the cup, was beating Wigan at Central Park and hearing the radio on the way home. One Pie fan said that they'd supported Wigan for the last 10 Years through thick and thin. The commentator pointed out that they'd won about 12 trophies in those 10 years
Hope I can Support Salford through some Thick over the next few years rather than the thin we've had for the last 30.
3. Playing Warrington away last year and the non-stop singing all through the second half. That typifies the Salford Spirit of the shed from about 10-15 years ago.

The defeat to Sheffield in 98 was my worst moment by a long way. We were minutes from Wembley, I was 13 at the time and I've still not got over it! My dad had to have a couple of days off work he was that gutted, haha.
And just when I thought I could put it all behind me, I stumbled across this on youtube www.youtube.com/watch?v=CQ9XWnY8nOk
Another bad one I remember was being relegated on the last day of the season (can't remember the year), but the moment was overshadowed by a big fat bloke invading the pitch wearing a bra and knickers, which made me chuckle.
Never been so excited for a season, bring on the Salford!

| Worst moment has to be the mauling at bradford away. I remember standing there at the end of the game thinking thats it I give up with it all, only for a couple of days to pass by and be eager for the next game to come around.
Best moment too many to think of. Probably just being a kid and living on weaste lane and the general magical feeling game day would bring, from being about 6 and doing the con club car park, then climbing onto the roof to watch the game until the gates opened 10 mins before the end and then rushing in to see the last moments. To then getting a bit older and getting a season ticket and becoming apart of the shed atmosphere silenced by no one...Thinking about it now stil gives that old butterflys in the stomach feeling, good times.

| Worst memory for me was losing to London a few years ago. Think we was winning like 30-6 at Ht and still lost. The salford players laughing at us while we were going mad annoyed me.
Best memory for me has to be beating wigan in the snow in 06. Was just so pleasing to see pie fans crying and worrying about relegation at that time.
Proud to be a salford fan when we was getting hammered last year of wire and we still sang to the end

| 1: Worst moments? To many to mention. The Bradford and Castleford games were bad as was the last game at the Willows.
2: Best memories? I think making the top 6 under Karl Harrison. Amazing achievement with the squad he had.
3: Demonstrations of Salford spirit? Our year in the National League 1 and seeing the same old faces travelling (what seemed) the length of breadth the world to keep watching our team. Memorable memories from Doncaster (Andy Coley steaming down the touchline to give us a narrow win) and Barrow (nicking the ball and the police coming into the stands to get it back) are the pick.

| 1: Worst - Plenty of poor defeats but the one that comes to mind is the try-less game against London at the Willows when it was raining really heavily. Did it finish 5-2? Something stupid like that.
2: Best - Wilshere's drop goal vs Crusaders, Winning a trophy in Blackpool, Top 6 under Harrison, watching Andrew Dunnemann, beating Wigan in the snow at the Willows.
3: Salford spirit - singing loud and proud when we are getting battered.

Is that a typo mate. What year was Offiahs drop goal? It was earlier, was it 2000?
We nilled Les Catalans on their first two visits. The Shed singing 'you'll never score at The Willows' after the 2nd game was v funny.
1: Worst moments? Watching the team get hammered at home in front of v small crowds in our shiny new stadium. Also the challenge cup game vs Leeds where we was unlucky to lose 16-10 but there must have 700 Salford fans for a home game, I was fearing for the future of the club.
2: Best memories? 2006 season had some great memories. Strong defence, 2 wins at Warrington - in Feb injury hit against the odds when I cleaned up at the bookies and good friday what a game and day sesh, 2 wins at home to Wigan, generally exciting rugby and top atmosphere at the Willows
3: Demonstrations of Salford spirit? The hardcore following away from home, you know who you are! I only go a handful of away games a season, mainly local but always make the effort to go Headingley. A couple of hundred committed souls on the terrraces on a Friday evening in feb knowing they are not going to have much to shout about but showing great humour and passion.

| Worst moments - the combination of losing both the last game at the Willows and the two proper first games at the new stadium against Leigh and Cas. You did wonder where the hell we were going from there. Special mention to, of course, the night in Pendleton Church, too. Lowest of the low.
Best memories - strangely enough, some of the away trips during the NL1 seasons. Some belting days out that can't be discussed fully on a public forum... Winning at Hull FC in the Challenge Cup is probably the personal stand-out on the pitch.
Demonstrations of Salford spirit - the atmosphere in the rain at Leigh and the year we lost at Warrington (can't remember exactly which one!) when there was a 15-20 minute unbroken "Red Army" chant in the second half. I remember the Wire fans looking over in absolute amazement.

I'd second that as well, especially in 2003. Having only been a fan since 1998, my time was hardly littered with success, so it was nice to visit some different grounds and win for a change. Plus beating Leigh maybe six times in a season .
3: Demonstrations of Salford spirit? The Shed when it was bouncing, or still singing away despite a lobsided scoreline.

| 1. Either that embarrassing defeat to Warrington at Murrayfield (at least our other hammerings were only witnessed by one set of 'other fans', OR the game v Leeds when Botham's son made his debut: I was at a conference in Llandudno but skipped the 4 course meal and the evening meeting to drive to the Willows, watch us being nilled, drive back, could not get owt to eat,and get a royal rollocking from the national executive the next day for missing the evening function.
2. That "recent" victory over Leeds at Leeds. BF, your expression was priceless.
3. I hope I never miss the Salford fans with which I have grown up. We are possibly the hardest SL club to support. In a football-mad area that dismisses our sport and with 30+ years of grief. Only the best could have stuck it out.

3596.jpg this will not be the end, or even the beginning of the end.
It is merely the end of the beginning

| 1. Worst memories - Definitely the drubbing away at Bradford and the semi final challenge cup loss at Headingley. Losing the other two Challenge Cup semi finals, one at Burnden Park against Wigan, if we had drawn either of the other semi finalist that day (Hull or Oldham we would have gone to Wembley!) the other semi at Central Park V Saints. Every time a game was called off due to bad weather at The Willows. Every defeat apart from the one against Keighley on a balmy Wednesday night, one of the best games of RL I have witnessed!
2. Best memories - Travelling to and beating Catalan away the first time. Beating the all conquering pies in the challenge cup. The first Semi Final at Burnden Park V Wigan, even though we lost heavily on a terrible rainy day it just stood out as a great memory along with the defeat in the Lancashire cup final against Wigan at Knowsley Rd. Travelling to watch us away in the 80's, one stand out memory was away at Blackpool Borough when Les Boyd got sent off after a fight only for the Blackpool player to be sent to the stands too and he chased Boyd threatening to hit him, as we shouted to Boyd he turned around and put up the old boxing stance and the Blackpool player decided to give it a miss. The re-play away at Workington after we had drew 9-9 at The Willows in the 2nd Div Premiership, we slaughtered them with Martin Birkett scoring a hat-trick. Standing at the back of the shed on the ledge with my shoulder in the girder with my dad and all the family when I first started going and the flat caps and aroma of Oxo/Hot Vimto and piped tobacco. My mum working in the dressing rooms from my childhood right the way through to my adulthood and having every day access to the ground! The smell of liniment on everything we owned! The day Hull FC supporters came to The Willows in droves and trashed the place, invading the pitch and wrecking The Variety Centre. Sunday games in the eighties when me dad would take us in the Variety Centre after a game and buy us a coke with a slice of lemon and a cherry in! Away games at Station Rd. Jeez I could go on and on and on!
Demonstrations of Salford spirit - Still being here after all the sh/te they have put us through!

| Worst moments - too many surely ,St Thomas Church Dec 2012 , the last few minutes of the 1998 semi final at Headingley , the last minute of the final game against Cas in 2002.
Best memories - Any Wigan win , Beating Keighley in the 1995 season ? and the team doing the Cougar Crawl. Actually seeing Salford win at Headingley in 2009.
Demonstrations of Salford spirit - when we applauded London Broncos off the field after a particular classly wipping of our hapless home side. still remember the look of confusion on Richie Barnetts face as he walked off.
