Marwan Koukash and Martin Vickers both attended a meeting at Swinton Legion last night infront of a packed (approx 250) audience. Here's a summary provided to me by a friend who attended.
Marwan's plan is to build a 3,000 capacity stadium on the former St Ambrose Barlow site with him taking over complete ownership of the club. There would be a partnership formed between both Salford and Swinton (makes sense) which would give the Lions access to our players, backroom staff and facilities.
He also confirmed his intention to host an additional friendly vs Swinton with all proceedings going to the Lions as a good will gesture for their assistance in our hour a need. A touch which many of us suggested earlier in the close season, bizzarely the friendly probably wont be played until late February.
The reason for building Swinton their own stadium was because he believes it's crucial that every club owns it's home ground, purely because of the revenue generated on match days needs to go to clubs as oppossed to other stadium owners, as at Barton.
Ultimately though all this depends on the relevant support from the City Council. Koukash is expecting a response/answer within the next 7 days and although his plans include NO funding from the Council, their support regarding planning and sale of the land will be critical. Due to the education nature of the site previously consent would be required from Central Government via the Secretary of State prior to obtaining full planning permissiong. This gives an estimated time frame for delivery as 2 years. They did consider the Agecroft site but felt it didnt scope for development.
1,600 people signed the petition which I posted on here too which Koukash acknowledged and said support is there for the development.
In the meantime, Swinton would continue to play some games at the Leigh Sports Village but also when Salford were due a home game preferably on a Sunday there could be double headers. He also promised to invest in their squad as he has done at Salford.
There was also a "plan B" discussion after Marwan's talk which regarded the Swinton Lions Trust and their back up plan to owning the club should Marwan's plans not come to fruition.
There's an article in today's MEN about it all too www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/ ... ns-6521770

Without any knowledge on saving money or obtaining grants,I do recall some years ago that a sports stadium which incorporated a medical facility was beneficial to the sports club. That changed.
I then learned that having an educational facility was beneficial.
Looking at a recent planned development in west London, for Brentford FC,the educational facility, incorporated into the stadium, may be beneficial. rlStoryrl
Good luck to Swinton and their band of loyal followers.
I've had a glance at reports of the new stadium for FC United - there is mention of a medical facility.
However, rlThis Lotrl blame government cuts.

| JGR I can only assume that your friend is no other than Phil H.
Firstly may I say I owe MK an apology since I did jump on the bandwagon of trying to ridicule him on this very forum and have to say it was wrong to do so.
I actually formed part of the meet and greet team who escorted MK and Martin Vickers to the meeting and was able to have a very long chat with him and found him to be very down to earth. He clearly knows how to work an audience as he had everyone's attention at the meeting , but then as he is offering Swinton the only prospect of returning to the town he would.
During our talks he made it clear that he would like Salford to play Swinton as a return gesture and the dates we are looking at is the end of January, early February. Any later and both teams would be in the thick of league fixtures.
He clearly sees Swinton as becoming a partnership benefiting Salford but didn't rule out the fact that there was no reason why both clubs could one day feature in Super League, now how damn good would that be?
Like I mentioned to him the rivalry between Swinton and Salford is as good if not better than that of Man Utd and Man City then only difference is that our rivalry is due to a far better product in my opinion.
Welcome to the Lions Mr Koukash.

Very nice of you to offer your apology & I will readily accept it.
It will be nice to mull over the local rugby with you on the train journey to Wembley.

| I can't for the life of me see why the Doc would want to get involved with Swinton! Sure Salford were a basket case when he bought us but he had the knowledge that we were in the top tier of our sport in Europe, Swinton are not and are highly unlikely ever to be so.
I do hope that he uses Swinton as nothing more than a feeder club for Salford and have something in place in Swintons contracts that Salford automatically get first dibs on any decent players they might unearth.
Do think the idea of a stadium is folly and money wasted, surely the cost of that would be best served being used in his battle to buy Barton and build the infrastructure surrounding it, can't see anything making the Barton facilities open to Swinton and maybe just look at opening the west stand. Seeing as Swinton would be using the onsite facilities would make most sense to me to have the whole organisation based in the same offices as Salford to make best use of the back room staff already employed by Salford.
See that certain individuals are trying to squirm out of the crap they at first sprouted when the Doc took control shows the stupidity of some people though I guess.

Surely that apology would be best directed towards the man who was on the receiving end? Then it would be his decision if he excepted.

| Could owning two clubs be a way around the salary cap? Maybe it's forward planning for the next big spending spree.

I don't know and have asked the same when the Doc was looking at Oldham, think the rule were a player on loan has to be at a club for at least a month might make that tricky.

Lets assume we sign an extra 2-3 quality players for 2015 and pay them through the Swinton club. Don't make the signings public and then loan them to Salford. Then announce them as Salford signings for the media publicity. RL come in and check salary cap and they find these players are exempt because they are loan players from Swinton.

The actions and comments of one in particular have sullied the name of Swinton in my eyes.
I personally because of that wouldn't bat an eyelid if they slipped of the face of the earth, harsh on some but maybe the moron who insisted on coming on here causing this has seen the error of his ways judging from comment you see others quoting, still doesn't detract from him coming on here and being the root cause of my feelings.

You need to get a grip. I'm glad that when we were in our hour of need last year, fans of other clubs were big enough to look past the behaviour of our online tools and not give us the deathwish. Christ know how you'd have reacted to them if they'd come on hoping for an end to us if this is how you react to a little light trolling.

The difference is I have never once gone onto a another teams forum, be that to troll or post anything else.
Think the garbage sprouted by Marshy amounted to more than a little light trolling and I do know he annoyed others on here just as much as me but they will not openly say it as they have mutual friends.

| Why don't you just give the Swinton related topics a miss in future? You've been made to look a t*t previously on this subject with your only defence relating to some pathetic "disagreement" with a Swinton fan on an internet message board some time ago.
Save yourself the further embarrassment.
