No longer will be seeing the Scottish, gum chewing, watch pointing dinosaur. Can't say I've ever liked the guy but cannot hold his record against him. Transformed Manchester United, won numerous of trophies, despite my dislike for the fella, just a well done on his career for myself

I think Wayne Bennett is the current holder of the longest serving RL coach. 21 years at the Broncos. As for Salford, I'm not sure.

Salford’s longest serving was Lance Todd. You can argue he’s the club’s first coach in a modern sense of picking the team and devising tactics. He did 12 years before Word War Two intervened and death via a car crash.
Next is probably Jimmy Douglas, who did around 7 or 8 years in the Fifties. Then it’s probably between Griff Jenkins (Sixties), Kevin Ashcroft (two spells in the 1980s) and Karl Harrison. |

Can't help but feel this is only good news for us.Couldnt give a rats a**e about united, but if they should go into decline now,then maybe more people would come and watch us.I work all over the north west and nobody wants to talk about any other subject but united.Whenever I mention rugby,people just ain't interested.

I doubt it. When United were relegated in 1974, they still had the highest attendance in the Football League. If Salford become a decent club, more people will come to watch but it wouldn’t be to the detriment of United. |

I go to United as well as Salford.
I really do not understand why people have a utter dislike for football.
Where do you visit in the North West ? I always find people are quite happy to talk about rugby League wherever I go as well as football.
Football (or soccer whatever you prefer to call it) is the best supported and participated sport in the region and probably the world.
Hence the reason he papers/TV and the person on the street talk about it.
If you think a couple of years of United winning nothing would bring fans to Salford then you are sadly deluded.
Move to Wigan Hull or Sydney if you just want to talk and hear about rugby league(even then football will come up ) |
