Not going to bite but seen as you've called me out a couple times now I'll happily oblige.

1, Rarely do I criticize the players, they are just not good enough, not there fault they get embarrassed 3 weeks out of 4.

2, So the players aren't good enough, see above. Whose it who signs the players?

3, Dinosaur? One would suggest your the dinosaur, happy to let someone who is long past there sell by date, continually run the club into the ground.

4, Clearly your in utopia at the moment. Had Sidlow not gone over, what would your opinion of the game been, Same old Salford bla bla blaaa

5, Best RL on show? Obviously your in the opinion Defense does NOT win you game. We cannot defend. SIMPLE! If you want examples, ask away! RL is 50/50 Offence, Defense, You cannot lose not conceding a point, albeit we'd only end up on 27 points minimum but it'd be more that we'd finish this season.

Now then Fossil, lets see if your view and opinions can take a step forward with me to the dinosaur years eh?

First of all, I have read 2 posts on 2 different threads from you in the last few minutes and your spelling, grammar and punctuation leave an awful lot to be desired.
Secondly, your points lack coherence and therefore are difficult to understand.
Thirdly, a fossil is merely a presevation of an animal or plant that died many years ago not an actual period of time. Many dinosaur bones are also fossils!
Fourth, Rugby League is about scoring more points than the opposition not about stopping them from scoring any which is what we did!
Finally, all the Sky sports pundits called it the best game of the day too. It was entertaining and close with a thrilling finale. It must be sad to be as pessimistic as you!

That would be you are (you're) as predictable! I used it to illustrate how your posts lack credibility and you have just proved me right!
If we lose by 20 on friday then it will be to a very strong Catalan team. You have also said we get embarrassed 3 weeks out of 4. Let's look at the last 4 results shall we? Leeds 10-16,Warrington 20-24, Bradford 20-20, Huddersfield 38-34. How embarrassing!

1. Totally disagree because when we have lost many have been close games, hardly embarrassing considering most clubs have a higher player budget than us.

2. Have you ever considered how difficult it must be to not only afford better players on Salford's income but to also attract them when 'so called' big clubs are also sniffing? Lets face it Salford will realistically have much smaller pool of players to chose from than most other teams in Superleague.
a046.gif I know lets sign Tompkins, Roby, Morley, Peacock, Sinfield, McGuire and a few other stars and pay them peanuts and all our frustrations will be a thing of the past. Maybe you could do the negotiations and get them to all agree on a 50% pay cut in return for the prestige of playing for SCR? icon_wink.gif

3. It's very easy to point blame but knowbody else is ever willing to put their hand up or more importantly throw some new money at Salford Reds.

4. We beat a team 7 places higher than us in the league and you won't allow yourself to give credit where its due. Had Sidlow not scored I'm sure you would have been much happier wallowing in defeat.

5. Personally I'd rather we won 34-38 in an entertaining game with plenty of great tries than a dull up your jumper, safety first 4-6 win. As a spectacle it was a far more entertaining game to watch than the pre hyped Wigan v Saints encounter.

I think Vievers got his tactics spot on yesterday by instructing the team to give the ball plenty of air and tiring out their big players in the heat. If we had played them down the middle and got into a forward battle we would have been beaten no matter how much emphasis was put on our defence.

This may be quite novel for this forum but I have to agree with PT regarding our defence. Firstly, let me say that of course I'm delighted we won, I'm positively euphoric over it actually! It was entertaining and in typical Salford style we were our own worst enemy, firstly throwing it away then getting it back and then nearly losing it again! Loved every bloody minute of it BUT.....

Seriously, our defence is simply abysmal at times. We often lose the collision, miss one on one tackles and lose meter after meter in the wrestle. To criticise the defence after a win seems odd I agree but we were lucky Hudds were as bad if not worse than us in that department yesterday. I've been told many times by fans from our's and other clubs that PV is a good defensive coach so it may simply be a case of having players who are not good enough in this department yet I do struggle to comprehend how you can become a professional RL player and not learn this important skill. Defence has been our downfall this season and I'm yet to see an improvement.

Any how, I suppose that was maybe an unnecessarily negative post considering the game and the weekend as a whole. I'm just not a fan of ppl constantly bagging other people's post's because they have a gripe with the poster.

I fully agree that our defence is very poor at times but overall it has actually improved slightly on last year despite conceding 3 points more than the superleague average of 25 points a game.

The team this year are averaging marginally fewer missed tackles and fewer points per game than last year. There is definitely room for a lot of improvement but is the defence more of a noticeable problem now the attack has improved at a higher rate?

An interesting stat if the figures are correct on the Superleague website. The World Champions Leeds Rhinos are averaging 11 more missed tackles per game this year than Salford. Perhaps it's our scrambling defence that's letting us down, where an initial missed tackle ultimately leads to more tries being scored against us?

Defence is a hard nut to crack.

You can coach it until the cows come home but it means little on game day. It's as much a state of mind as it is a technical ability. When teams get on an attacking roll it bolsters efforts in their own defensive efforts. Morale and fitness also play a part but defensive ability is a fluid concept that ebbs and flows as a game progresses. Good tacklers can have bad days. Good defensive teams can have shockers. All that PV can do is drill into them the technical side of defence and hope the RL Gods take care of the rest.

I also agree with theredshed in that scrambling defence is a good indicator.

We may moan somewhat but results against the likes of Wire, Leeds and Bradford indicate that we may be being overly critical.

You may very well be right in this regards. I suppose it's more frustrating and highlighted further in close games when these defensive lapses occur. Our attack is the best it's been for years, it's far from the finished article and improvement further is needed as we do only have a few set moves but we do look like scoring a fair few points most games. When you lose by 4/6/10 points in games you inevitably look to where you could have turned those few points around and 99% of the time it's down to individual stupidity and times bone idleness in defensive situations.

It's easy to say everything is rosey after a good win but we all need to be realistic and accept that we still have a long way to go and certain individuals on the playing roster are not up to standard. Small improvements year on year are to be expected but sooner rather than later their has to be a substantial and consistent improvement to keep the punters interested. Were getting there, very slowly, but were getting there!

I guess I can also be included as one of the missing dinosaurs. However, a win is a win and I enjoyed it!

...............despite the fact Giants bombed more tries than I can remember and our defence IS appalling, we managed to achieve an unexpected but deserved win. Well done to the Team and PV.

Seem to remember a win against the Giants was one of the few highlights of last season as well.

Wow we actually won a game. Firstly the table doesn't lie, and one win in seven speaks volumes, it'll be interesting to see the next run of games to back up your deluded beliefs. Huddersfield should of won it in the closing seconds, i thought they looked like scoring with every attack proving our shambolic defence still looks woeful at times especially in the centre where Nero and Gleeson defend. However the guys stuck it out and rode their luck for a change and played some good Rugby which has been absent for a while.

Also i find it strange to be called a dinosaur Early Bath especially when i'm the one calling for change and you're the one licking the backside of an outdated dinosaur leadership.

No Dante I am not deluded. I am a Realist. In Boxing terms vis a vis Salary Caps etc - we are punching far above our weight. A big well done to our coaching team ( all ex Saints who played the type of RL we are watching - Veivers, Long & Hunte). icon_cheers.gif
