The Guardian are reporting that Salford will be offering Gleeson a contract. I know the debate about how good an idea this is has been had on an old post that i can't find but thought I'd point you towards the article if you haven't seen it

I'm all for Gleeson. Powerful. Skilful. And a bit of a C**T on the pitch. Which is what I think we lack at times when were too honest. A bully who can get in the oppositions face and win the arm wrestle out wide. Can't see many other local clubs being too interested either, namely Warrington or Saints. Plus he has family here icon_smile.gif

Not for me to be honest. I would rather we signed a younger player with potential. I know he is class and all, but he is trouble and is 30+, i would like us to sign a player who could be on the way up and bring the club forward with their growth as opposed to a player that is on the decline, as we seem to have done with a few of our signings this year. Obviously we have signed a few exceptions to that i.e the general but he is a top pro who is no doubt a great influence to the kids and fellow teammates and is the kind a pro that we all want to see playing for and promoting our club, unlike Gleeson who I fear wouldn't

There's a great deal of media speculation here. A reporter ask Simms (or other RL person) would they think about signing Gleeson if he was available and they had the cash. Simms 9or other) states they would certainly be considering this. Reult: reports we are looking to sign Gleeson.

There's another reason why Gleeson cannot come to Salford - he's not injured.

The guy is a top performer, who would put bums on seats. How often do we get to see players like him in a red shirt? Sign him up, in my opinion.

Totally agree pal, we need someone with his class to up the other young lads playing capabilities, yes i know he's been a naughty boy off the pitch but that doesn't make him a bad RL player on it ?. For me one of Wigan's star performers last year a good strong solid player who i hope to god we sign.

St Helens couldn't handle him, Warrington couldn't handle him & Wigan couldn't handle him, what chance of we got?

Crackin' player but sadly flawed.

Why is it that all those saying we should sign him up even though he's been a "bad boy" are the same ones using that argument to not sign Cooke? Both of them quality player. Both with to much off field trouble.

No thanks Gleeson I/we don't want you.

Ye you may be right about Saints and Wire but didnt Wigan get rid due to the trouble he got himself into outside of club time.? Think he got on well with the wigan players and coaches but they can't keep a player who's plastered all over the press about being blackmailed by so-called underworld figures? I know it'll be a risk but how we stand currently a its a risk i think the Reds should take?

Listen we don't know what's really happened and why he's been released and until we do I think I will keep my thoughts on whats has happened to myself.

Looking at it from a purely rugby point of view, we should sign him!! The guy's world class!! His performance in the grand final last year was immense. He's played for three of the biggest teams in SL so he must have something about him.

First accept sadness. Realise that without losing 70% of the time, winning wouldn't be such a relief.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_32990.jpg

This could all be hypothetical if we haven't the money to sign him but . .

He's an International quality centre with probably 2 years left in him at Superleague level. It may be worth giving him a chance if the conditions were right for Salford. If he wants to continue playing in SL and isn't keen on travelling (Assuming another SL team were interested) then he might come for less money and prove a real asset to the team. I'm sure our wingers would welcome playing outside him with open arms. Perhaps we could offer him a deal until the end of the season with special clauses:

1. Perform and get another 12 months after this year.
2. Any more trouble and the contract is cancelled with immediate effect.

Agree entirely. He's had his chances and screwed them up: talent undoubtedly, but a possible bad influence that we can't afford. I don't know what sort of salary he's been used to either, but it won't be peanuts.

I here what you say but it didn't prevent Wigan winning Superleague last year of which he was a big part of.

As for screwing it up, I don't think he did at Saints because Warrington paid a £200K transfer fee for him didn't they? And then he left Warrington because they needed a fullback and swapped him for Richie Mathers with Wigan paying £125K on top of the swap deal.
