| I guess all clubs sign good players who then for whatever reason fail to reproduce the game that got them signed in the first place. Luke Dorn springs to mind for us at Salford. Good player but not a success with us. Good luck to Tim Smith..hope he thrives at Wakey.

| Bit of a sticky, tricky question that one Mable.
I presume you are a lateral thinker asking Salford whether the Catalan full back is available.
So maybe I should ask whether Carney was available to swap for Danny Williams? Just trying to get into your line of thinking.

| Think you`ll find he`s happy at SRD and will be trying to oust Chase & Dobson next year. Learning all the time and will be a good `un.

Is he still a Red's player and on loan at Wakey or have we paid a transfer fee for him, the reason I ask is because our chairman said he would not pay a fee for him plus he has only signed for 2015.

Permanent deal apparently, but no fee mentioned.
With it being a one year deal, I wouldn't be too surprised to see him return to Australia afterwards.

Thanks for that, We've two or three on one year deals' maybe it's got something to do with not over committing themselves with the bottom four going into that middle play off with the top four championship clubs.

| I don't think Wakefield can commit to anything further than a one year deal for a player earning what I suspect Tim Smith will be. With promotion and relegation taking effect, there are dangers in over committing when your fate for the future years isn't secured.
As previously said, huge shame it didn't work for Tim at Salford. I was excited by his signing, but he just never settled. It was great to see him back to his best towards the back end of last season with Wakefield.

They could commit to a contract that covers Super League only though, so if the club is relegated a new contract has to be negotiated or the player can move on. That's how it used to work.
I can understand players not wanting to commit long term to a club they feel might be involved in the relegation battle though. Unfortunately, there's the danger of it becoming a self-fulfilling prophecy as the club has to exist from year to year and finds it harder to commit to any long term plans.
P&R between a full time competition and a largely part time one will inevitably throw up problems like this.
