This weekend saw the first round of this years Valentine Cup. Two pools of three teams, winner of each pool to play the final at the Willows in August.

Don't know the Eccles V Cadishead result from Saturday but in a close game yesterday that was only really decided in the last 8 minutes with Worthy scoring twice, Langworthy Reds beat Bury 22 - 6 at Park Lane before the Swinton match.

Salford RLFC Folly ARLFC Good john wilky last looked out on the pitch at salford. when the snow lay round about deep and crisp and even brightly played the lads that night though the frost was cruelllll when poor swinton scored a try we had 94urrrrrrrrrr:7891.jpg

Very very poor performance by Folly today, taking nothing away from Cadishead by the way. A very young Folly team managed to come on top in the end 26-30. Eccles must be buzzing at the moment because of that performance, we were not even a patch on Swinton!!!! Very very poor!

Yep, it was a young Langworthy reds team who started well but faded. It was a well drilled Irlam team that made it comfortable in the end, but if the reds can keep that team together for a couple of years then i can see them being a force. By the way, the ref had a shocker. icon_lol.gif

i saw the reds vs hornets game and personally having watched hornets last year i just think they had an off day, reds took it too them and did well for the first quarter but irlam were to big too strong and considerbly a lot fitter than langworthy, reds forwards were poor and didnt make much yardage but gained a lot of yards through their backs and penalties by irlam, hornets forwards were making good yards and setting good field position but had defensive problems on one side where the tries were scored but langworthy failed to capatilise on that sides weakness, i think last years result was 86-12 to irlam so it seems as though there as been some improvement but it looks like its going to be a tough old season for langworthy this year and the young players they have will start to feel their pride hurting and probably leave, well played both teams anyway unlucky langworthy

In actual fact it was the forwards who did the work
they weren't much fitter than us
they weren't better than us we were two evenly matched teams but they won due to there slight advantage in forward fitness there was only one forward for langworthy who didn't stop and that was number 17 the young 17year old very promisining player as you'se probably seen who watched the game
It was the arguing half backs who lost them the game due to not telling the others players the moves and trying to take it themselves

That sounds aggressive
its not icon_biggrin.gif

Thought the Langworthy left hand was MOM, but like i said in a earlier post that if they can keep together for a couple of years then they will be some team. Dont agree with you Big Red regarding the forwards, they out muscled and out played the young Langworthy forwards and Mr Owen had a fine game in the centre and played the winding up the spectators brilliantly.Think the Reds could do with a Mr Aldcroft back in the front row, just to help the young ones out. But that is just my opinion.

As i played for Langworthy reds open age, 11 years ago when they first formed so what do you think?. My report was a non biased one as to what i seen. If you did play in that game then you would have had a different view. Are you the guy who works behind the bar by any chance?

no chris charles i was watching but lean torwards irlam, i fully agree with you on what you said, i do however think if the game was played again and irlam gave away less penalties then the score margin would be be very different
Its nice to actually see a very fair report from an oppositions fan
