| As Vievers is out of contract at the end of the year just wondering if anyone would offer him a new deal based on what they have seen? After a decent enough start apart from Castleford we have slowly slipped off the pace, Hull KR & Wakefield were two absolutely shocking performances. IIRC this time last season we were on 10 points this season we are on 8. It is becoming another very long season and whilst I expected it, here we are again. It’s the 1st of May and quite honestly I feel our season is over with already, we are knocked out of the challenge cup and with the play offs becoming more and more distant each week I can’t help but feel deflated. As much as I was proud of the lads on Sunday against Leeds it’s left me wondering why can’t we show that level of commitment and passion each week? Understandably a lot of our fans from years gone by simply don’t seem to care anymore more and more people are becoming tired and bored watching the same Salford that get beat every week. One of the only positives this season is the brand of rugby we have played at times, but having had more points in the league this time last year is it really working?
I know the season isn’t over yet but knowing Salford too well I know what to expect from this back end of the season a few more awful performances no doubt and maybe a surprise win which will make people forget about the awful ones and people will paper over the cracks.
I personally would like Powell to be given a chance. Vievers as expected has become another stodge appointment for me, obviously having a good team is the main thing but in all honestly Vievers is never going to take us to that next level. I hope we can keep hold of Long off load a few players in the off season and build for next year, but with no money and seemingly scraping to get by realistically it’s not going to happen and no doubt this time next year the fans will be feeling the same. I wonder how long we can survive like this for.

I think he's doing a good job as we have low resources (and, until the carping posters input their lottery wins, will continue to have).
I also feel that this season was seen as a season of gradual improvement NOT last season's "We will make the play-offs". See it as that.
The crowds may or may not greatly increase if we won more. No one has proved this, no one has ever explained to my satisfaction that local fan levels are not close to what we can ever expect. (The last game at the Willows is no indication of the level of support we can capture: it was a one-off experience.)

| Yes I would. What this team needs, especially after last season, is some constancy. Phil has done a great job in my opinion. The whole dynamic of the team has changed from the days of Shaun McRae. Players enjoy training and get on well with the coach and that doesn't mean they get it easy in training either, it means they want to win more for him. I think he deserves a 2 year deal to start to build his own team and make his own signings and then we'll see how the team has improved then.

| I'd certainly keep him on, hopefully with Longy and Alan Hunte, that's the nucleus of a really good coaching team IMHO
But as HBR says earlier on, unless resources are found then we'll continue to scrape the barrel - I think the fall off in performance just reflects the age of some of the players and the toll the game takes - without greater strength in depth in the squad we'll continue to struggle I fear.

| I wasn't impressed by the appointment of Vievers, but to be honest I think he's done pretty well with the players we've got.
I think it's more imortant to ensure we make better signings in future, than many of the flops we've signed in the past.
It's also about time we appointed somebody who could also run a successfull business.
You've guessed by now where I'm coming from......Tarry and Simms OUT and Vievers, Long and Hunt IN.

I'm sure it was said earlier that Long doesn't have a contract, is just working on a pro tem basis (of course I might just have dream't that!!)

| I have no problem with him getting another contract especially if we could keep Long as well plus three/four new players.

| IMO he has done a very good job given the fact they have changed the playing style & structures completely from last season, he didn't organise pre-season as Parrish did and apart from Josh & Howarth none of the other signings have been his. I think he deserves at least another season to put his own stamp on the team with his own signings and take it from there.

| Think Ive heard Vievers & Long have this & next year contracts, Phil has stated they have a 5 year plan & want/need to improve year on year. Not sure on this 100% but not far short, will try & confirm it re the 2 years.

| I wonder sometimes if the improvement we see on the pitch is down to Vievers or to Long, apart from Sunday I've not really seen a massive improvement in the defensive qualities but think we can all see a massive upturn in our attacking flare.
I'd personally still like to see a Kear type in charge as he is well known for bringing the best out a of a squad of players not reknowned as superstars.

The temporary head coach at St Helens, pleased that they kept Widnes and Oldham scoreless in the past 2 games, has been quoted in the RLE this week,as saying 'Defence is an attitude....'
I don't think Wayne Bennett,John Kear or Daryl Powell change things in a matter of a few months.Powell has been at Featherstone since 2008.
No complaints from me against either of the coaches - with the viciousness of the criticism and the attitude of posters and those at the stadium, they and the players have surpassed all expectations - as has the conditioner ! With a weeks rest after the game at Warrington I am hopeful of another winning run.

| Now Vievers say's It will take four years,McRae said the same thing,If Wilkinson does not find some money or a
sugar daddy, there will be no one there next season, never mind four years time.never mind we could get half price
tickets for the Sharks. At least we would be sat in a crowd.

There's a subtle difference between the Vievers/Long five year plan and what you are saying Lance, as I have said before it's not what you say it's the way that you say it.
If John Wilkinson doesn't find any more money or another investor I personally wouldn't hold it against him or the other directors who must have put huge amounts into the club only to be criticized daily from certain quarters.
There will be people watching Salford City Reds next season possibly minus some who say on a regular basis that they are finished and I for one will not be watching Sale Sharks if they offered a free ticket which included the hospitality and a free car parking space.
If the club did cease to exist it may make some people happy I wont be one of them but there again some people will have had their day made.
