| Have posted this on another thread but thought it deserved one of it's own
I've heard on the rumour mill that the rebranding announcement may be one that certainly I and maybe quite a few others will be very upset about. This isn't from a tabloid rag either.
The rebrand us to drop the name SALFORD! We will just be known as The Red Devils, (& I have heard that this may be a pre cursor to inserting Manchester further down the line).
I personally will not watch a team called Manchester, I don't identify with it, I am from Salford!!! I think this is a huge mistake and the doc needs to be told so starting on friday!
Nothing against Manchester or any football club with the name (this is a rugby issue). we have all waited for a successful Salford and now that there are hopes that this could happen it seems that it will be taken away from us. The doc said the rebranding was bringing back our heritage and history. Dropping the name Salford seems contrary to that. hope this rumour is wrong but I say let all who hold Salford dear voice our passion and let the doc know!

| Very good point and I hope you are right in making the connection. I did say I hope this isn't true. Just really worry about stuff like this especially as we have a new CEO with no experience of RL.
Hope you are right

Where did you hear that, thats pure rubbish. we're going to be rebranded the Salford Red Devils i can assure you of that, one of my good friends close to the club has seen the new Devil logo and it clearly does include SALFORD on the logo.

| I'm not a Salfordian so I have a more relaxed view on the whole naming debate. I have, however, spent my formative years at the Willows and grown-up with it being my Mecca. It would be sad to lose the Salford from the title, but at the end of the day it's just a word. The Club, the team, the history can't be changed. I realise that people from Salford identify with it (Although not everyone in Salford seems to care) and are fiercely independent from their close neighbours.
It wouldn't be the end of the world if it happened. I'd prefer it to stay but if it goes, c'est la vie.

| Good post Butcher. I also think we have to look at thing from the Doctors perspective.
He has invested in the future of the club and if `Salford` has to be in the title then the people of Salford really have to support it - its a business and if he feels the catchment area will enlarge because of the title change then so be it. He is paying the bills so the decision must be down to him.

| Could there be some confusion between the new club logo/badge just displaying Red Devils rather than dropping the Salford name all together? Perhaps the club have recently decided the badge looks better visually without Salford on it? They could be looking at NFL clubs who choose not to show the place in the logo.

| No it doesn't!! That is like saying that we should be happy about fuel charges cos it's the business of the oil companies so they can set the price and we have to deal with it.
I don't think changing the name to Manchester will increase the fan base. It could however lose a few. If on the other thread the posts are correct it is a storm in a tea cup anyway. All I was saying was we are Salford and the name should stay no matter what.

| I'll echo Butcher's post, but having seen the way Koukash talks about the club, I'd surprised if he cut Salford from the club's name.

I reckon it'll be this. Sale did the same thing last year and all the old dears on their website got their knickers in a twist.
Personally, I'm not too worried ability what goes on the logo as long as everything else is done right.

red13pjb ,Are you not jumping the gun , at present this is conjecture. We ARE Salford ,and no matter what the ' rebranding ' entails will remain so.

| So what happened to the Cavendish Street Football Club supporters when the first re-branding happened and the name was changed to Salford?
A bit unrealistic to believe that everything must stay the same.

I know you're Salford through and through, Pete. If it was to happen, and there's no evidence just yet it will, it's just a name. The essence of your Club does not change. The supporters don't suddenly feel different. I sympathize that hardcore Salfordians would grumble at it but it is what it is. It doesn't void our history, it doesn't change the Club in any severe way. Remember, we have undertaken name changes before and we didn't actually originate as Salford RLFC. We've moved grounds plenty and we've adapted as required. I'm sure some grumbled at each and every change but in reality it's a cosmetic change at best. Those Clubs that don't adapt, languish.
