'NottinghamTiger' has the scenario right on the other thread. Don't get your hopes up or expect Carney to be playing for Salford in 2017.
You can kid yourself and live in hope that he will sign for longer but, just like Scott Taylor, he will only be here for a season.
Justin Carney himself rejected a permanent/longer move to Salford.
Carney isn't wanted by his teammates at Castleford. Castleford and Darryl Powell don't see him having much of a future at the club. However only Hull and Salford showed any interest in signing Carney this season and I presume only Salford will have been willing to pay a substantial signing on fee for his services for 9 months. This meant that Castleford weren't in a position to ask for a huge fee for a permanent move for Carney. It also meant Carney wasnt in a position to ask for big wages and his options were limited. Hence the 12 month deal. In 12 months time Carney will be put on the market again and it is hoped by Castleford/Carney himself that there will be a lot more interest and competition for his signature then.
Carney's son and ex-partner/current partner still live in West Yorkshire I believe so hence why he was reluctant to join Salford permanently. There is an abundance of wingers in Super League at the minute (just look how many Catalans have) and so it is hoped that with clubs such as Leigh possibly being promoted next year (Carney has already been linked with Leigh for 2017) and clubs cap space freeing up therefore Cas can demand a bigger fee in 12 months and Carney can demand higher wages.
I notice Marwan has posted on twitter "We have an option to sign him for 2017". Seemingly this i just to appease a few fans who have questions about the signing. Basicaly, every club in rugby league has the option to sign him for 2017 because he will be back on the market. Every club has the option to sign every player at any point, this is how transfers work. Even I have the option to sign Carney for my sons amatuer open-age Sunday League team. It wont happen though
