| So, it's official and Theo has signed a four-year-contract with Saints.
Since Marwan Koukash has taken over at Salford, we've signed Tim Smith and lost Marc Sneyd. During this time, Tim Smith flopped and left to join Wakefield, he has since been involved in a drink-driving offence and has generally failed to impress since arriving back at Belle Vue. In contrast, Marc Sneyd has reached the play-offs twice with Cas and Hull and has played in a Challenge Cup final.
We've also signed Rangi Chase and Michael Dobson, but just lost Theo Fages. Despite moments of absolute individual brilliance from Rangi Chase, he has failed to consistently influence games and as a result our league position hasn't improved (much) since he joined. Michael Dobson is another who has had an indifferent first season with Salford, he suffered a knee injury (something he was known for before joining Salford) which forced him out for around 8 weeks and whilst he has been on the pitch his contribution hasn't been anything special. Again, similarly to Rangi we've seen glimpses of what he is capable of ie controlling games, kicking teams around the park and generally being a leader but not a consistent basis. Theo on the other hand has attracted interest from the current Super League champions, who have just signed him up on a four-year-contract with the seemingly likely scenario that he will be playing first team RL next season alongside Luke Walsh in the halves.
I wonder just where Salford would be right now, had we kept hold of Marc Sneyd and Theo Fages and not made any of the above signings. Would the combination of both those young, talented players have improved our league positioning in 2014 and 2015? I guess it's difficult to say, but judging by the way Niall Evalds has performed following Kevin Lockes arrival/departure I would hedge my bets that we certainly wouldn't have done any worse and in the process Marwan would have saved thousands of pounds and the club wouldn't have its name dragged through the press due to club imposed suspensions and the like.
We're also strongly linked with signing Gareth O'Brien. Whilst I like O'Brien as a player, he is certainly no better than either Sneyd or Fages. It just beggars belief.
Marwan said when he joined, the days of our youngsters leaving to sign for other clubs is a thing of the past. Lets hope we signed Niall Evalds up to a lengthy contract ASAP and that we've learnt our lesson when it comes to signing overseas players when we've got more than adequate youth at our disposal.

What i would really like to know is why couldn't theo fages say to his agent, he would resign at the end of the season? After all he makes the final decision.'"
Heard similar that Graeme Taylor and Marwan Koukash have a very volatile relationship, even to the point of Koukash banning him from the stadium. Clearly his agent has done all he could to move him on from Salford and my theory on the resignation is, Mr Taylor knew Saints would never pay a transfer fee above £50k so in order to reduce Theo's value (probably around £80k) he used mistakes Salford had made previously with regards to Theos contract and cite breach of contract. Knowing full well an RFL tribunal would favour the player and set a marginal transfer fee.
As we know, it never went to a tribunal and a fee of less than £30k was agreed.

Hopefully this is a huge wake up call and a time to learn from past mistakes. Going forward there has to be much more emphasis on improving recruitment, team spirit, mental attitude, consistency and discipline. The future has to be viewed as a steady building process rather than some quick fix route to success.
Personally I think the biggest mistake Koukash has made since he's been at the club was gambling on a rookie coach. Harris may have been OK tactically/technically but he obviously lacked the necessary management skills and experience to pacify and control certain individuals in a challenging environment. An analogy I would use is it's like a young inexperienced builder trying to construct a luxury house with very expensive materials on no foundations. What's going to happen? It's going to collapse isn't it?'"
Sorry can't agree with that statement...in my opinion the biggest mistake of the Koucash era was appointing Brian Noble and trusting his judgement on players...to me Noble had lost touch with the modern game and his signings reflected this. Apart from Greg Johnson we had absolutely no pace whatsoever and the style of play wasn't great to watch either. Smith and Chase never jelled...Meli and Williams too slow...I thought when Harris took over he did an admirable job steadying the ship, sorting the defence out and injecting much needed pace. I think Harris had bad luck with the Chase ban and then Dobson getting injured ...apart from the strange signing of Micheal Platt who ran like a tortoise on prozac he did ok in my book. With regards to Theo ? Im not too bothered ..let Saints have him ..unless Long can develop him I don't think his kicking game will be good enough for that level and will be found out...Id much rather we tie Evalds down to lengthy contract and look after him as that young man is definitely a class act.

| Noble could only sign what was available, hence Smith not Dobson.
The Koukash mistake was jettisoning Noble too early and starting the trend of instability

32990_1435324474.jpg First accept sadness. Realise that without losing 70% of the time, winning wouldn't be such a relief.:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_32990.jpg |

| Personally I think Koukash made a knee jerk reaction. Fair enough if Noble wasn't the right man he should have held off and waited for a few months for a proven Aussie coach to become available. It may have cost a lot more money to attract this caliber of coach but I'm pretty certain we would be in a much better position now.

| Seems the minute he leaves Salford he feels more comfortable not wearing a head guard.
Playing against Wales ATM, looks odd not seeing him in the cap.
