It's likely that the standard contract says that he has to be fit to play when the contract starts,and it hasn't started yet.
However,with something like this it's unlikely any club would cancel it at this stage,as it would affect players signing in the future.
I also believe that these contracts have a cancellation clause if a player is out for a pre determined time,even when under contract.

What I always worry about with severe injuries of this type is that when a player does come back they are cautious of the affected area and over compensate and risk injuries in other areas as a result.
