Oddly I saw that article and thought the same, surely a more salient opinion would come from someone with a more recent connection to the game.

It's getting really tedious having social outcasts from other clubs constantly popping up on here to comment on threads whose context they don't even have the faintest understanding of.

I lot on this forum never saw Murphy play.I wish we had a seventeen year old Alec on the books now.The greatest half back I have ever seen,and I have seen some great ones.

Classic ageism. But old-time legends are also prone to talking down the contemporary game in comparison to their heyday. Even Gus Risman did this in his autobiography, believing rugby league in the 1950s was nowhere near the standard of the 1930s.

I did not compare then and now,I said Murphy was the best half back I had ever seen.Like a few more on here I was lucky enough to see the team of Dixon Watkins Richards and the rest,and in my opinion that team with today's training methods would have give that team we had out on Friday,twenty points start and still won by a street.ask my mate Early Bath.

20 each half wouldnt have been enough. Moves were put on all over the park. Joy to watch. Big difference from 5 drives and a kick.
