Quote mmp="mmp"most development work is done, by all clubs, using external sources of funds...
and the RFL have targetted its funds, drawn down from sport england, on certain areas...
so often, the targetting is based on the geography that an external funder is targetting. Bury for example receives some support from Swinton and Swinton fans complain - but the fact is the money ultimately comes from Sport England, via the RFL, who've decided that some resource should flow into Bury. it is not discretionary to be spent anywhere else other than Bury.
so, when money flows to Trafford via the club - be glad its money flowing to a) our sport, and b) via our club. it wouldnt 'exist' if this wasnt the case and it couldnt be spent in another area anyway.
Sale's current work seems to come from a sponsorship source. the question i'd have is what clubs will these kids play at? If i was Cadishead, i'd be following the Sale work very closely...
as young kids won't realise any difference.'"
Salford Reds also get funding from all sorts of sources to do coaching in schools - it would have been appropriate perhaps if they would have had more than one person going into
local schools when/the year before they moved to Barton!! If their Community Coaches weren't available - they have a bus load of full time professional players that could have put a few hours in here and there! I'm sure some young Reds supporters would have loved to have seen them in the community. To my knowledge, Reds professional players NEVER get into the Community, despite promises, and they're as far removed from the amateur game as the management.
And why would you think just Cadishead should be following the Sale work very closely? Eccles Rugby League is nearer the Stadium than Cadishead. I have no doubt that Eccles Rugby Union will benefit from the funding that's going into RU coaching at local schools. Sadly, the RFU seem to be able to perform better off the pitch than the RFL!
