From where I saw it two Wakefield players had tackled Brotherton and held him down, Wakefield 4 tried to facial Brotherton whilst he was held and Wakey 11 then ran in and punched Brotherton 3-4 times when he was pinned down, a bit like you would see on a Friday Night in Wakefield City centre !!
A Walne moved in as the linesman and ref just stood by watching as Brotherton was pounded, Walne got rid of the number 11 but was surrounded by a further 3 Wakey players then his brother Jordan Walne ran in to give him a lift. Didnt see the 16 just stood about as stated, but I dont blame Adam Walne from stopping his team mate getting beaten up whilst pinned on the ground !! (I had just got back from the bar!!)I think the ref was too lenient on the 'aggressive' Wakefield tactics throughout the game and the Wakefield number 9 had definately had some angry pills before playing!
All credit to Salford for manning up and there superior rugby skills shone through.
Sneyd was good as was Files, Whitehead, Evalds and A Walne, MoM in my view was Jordan Walne, all action second row.
Credit to the good numbers of supporters present also 2-300 all in fine voice.
Always asking for a brawl when the ref doesn't get a grip of the game, and it put's the players at risk. It happened in my playing days years ago at Widnes, one of our players ended up with a broken jaw/pallet. We won the game but at an expense.
On a brighter note it's great to see the U20's going so well !!
