This was from a bad time in our history
Alker got away with a lot due to a poor coach, a week chairman a big headed director of rugby.
the mistakes were made from then.
We now have a new coach so let’s hope he can keep today’s players onside because we know the rest can not do it!!!
That article on the BBC website is really badly written. The first time I read it, I wasn't sure if he'd supposedly hit McRae! Even with that caveat, Alker doesn't come out of it sounding good TBH. I'd certainly expect one of the most senior players to do everything possible to avoid a fight with another team member.
350 games, 15 years, never took a backward step on, (or off the field it seems), stayed loyal to us throughout.
Malcolm's fire made him the player he was.
He may have made a mistake or several, (like many players before him). Good Managers should sort these issues out, and preferably behind closed doors.
Give me an Alker before a MacRae any day of the week.
Anyhow, they're both gone now. Time to move on, but I for one will always be grateful for the efforts of Malcolm Alker.
