Monitoring outside for the people inside: |
|
| As a Warringtonian born and bred, I have always fround a Salford accent to be very similar to that of central, north and east Warrington. I would say an outsider would be unable to distinguish them.
There are subtle differences. I would say that Warringtonians tend to drop the word "the" more as in "going t'shops".
Instead of anything, we say "eh-wt" whereas Salfordians would pronounce it "ow-t". They also say "2 while 3" whereas we say "2 till 3".
Thanks to Noel and Liam/Kevin and Perry, young Warringtonians seem to have adopted the Salford/Manchester habit of pronoucing th as an F and the annoying golottel (sp) stop. For example "fanks for my glass of wa'er".
Not exactly relevant to your point just my observations.

| Noel & Liam come from the well known MANCHESTER suburb of Burnage, where indeed I was born (some years before them), but what that has to do with SALFORD accents I know not!!

| Salford had a "manc" accent long before then!
However the Salford accent is still different to a Manc accent. If you know what your listening for. Especially in older people.
