Quote: theredshed "The red 'S' shirt of the 70's had red cuffs not white. To my knowledge there was two away shirt versions. Dark green with a white 'S' and a white jersey with a red 'S'. There was also a special red shirt with a white badge featuring a devil for the 1976 Premiership Final against St Helens.'"
The dark green shirt had a gold 'S' on it, not white. I think, but couldn't be sure, it was a tribute to the fact that we'd played the touring Aussies that year and beaten them.
Also as another completely useless but interesting fact, that kit was worn by the staff of Audenshaw Grammar School in the annual Staff -v- 1st XV RU challenge match in either 1979 or 1980, clearly, John Knighton (our PE teacher and Salford loose/2nd row forward) had helped himself to it!!
