The artist felt there was too much green in the foreground and wanted to break it up with a splash of colour, so he put a shirt draped by the side of a rugby ball.

Well let's just call it artistic licence shall we? As I said on the first post the guy who did it has never been to the Willows and isn't a sports fan. He was just working from some photo's and I think he assumed that the lights went right round. It was something I noticed when I got the painting home but if you let your eye be drawn into the corner between North Stand and Main Stand you don't really notice the fore ground and what is left is the magnificent view of the Old Girl in all her glory.
