Quote The Black Cat="The Black Cat"Steve Blakeley, I'm sorry to say that he was crap compared to some mentioned above. Fair do's he had the odd good game.'"
I've said that for years, he was fantastic for his first 2 or 3 years but after that he was a bit of a one trick pony, however when he was on form he could be a very special player and like someone has already said
[ihe[/i was the only person that needed to realise that. His goal kicking was excellent and won us a good number of games.
Quote The Black Cat="The Black Cat"Neil Baker - If you never saw him, too young, didn't go at the time etc........... Boy did you miss something SPECIAL. '"
I did write a narrative on Neil baker for the Turkey a few years back (which I've lost) he was for me the finest player I’ve seen in a Salford shirt (being born in 1977 didnt help matters in that department, end of an era and all that, yes I'm too blame!) the things Neil could do with the ball were at times mind boggling, his kicking game would have left 99% of RL players well behind, he only played 19 times and yet managed to score 11 tries, 11 goals and 7 drop goals managing 73 points and all this in a team back in 1985 that was, with all due respect, pretty damn dreadful!
Quote The Black Cat="The Black Cat"Can I ask did anyone try to contact him? '"
I kept in touch with him for a number of years after he left but we lost contact. I did however track him down to a Club he was coaching at even and his favourite pub back in Oz a few years back but without actually making contact to him.
I may try again!
