I know speaking to phil and other coaches from folly lane that big Phil will be returning home at the end of the season. I for one think he has given his all for the club and wish him all the very best for the future.
That's very well photo finish, however what quality of player is prepared to come to Salford for potentially 12 months? Ok we got the stadium but that does not garunte us SL status they may say have 3 years out build up the crowds etc then you will be back in. Also most quality players are already signed up for soneone even though clubs arnt supposed to speak to players from our clubs is will go on as seen with Myler. If swain stays we only have one quota spot if Henry stays we will have none, so the NRL market will be very limited. Everyone keeps saying we will have a quality team to go in stadium I think we are going struggle, not sure our coaching staff are going to attract players either. I think we are better off developing our own players or possibly young lads from other top SL team but possibly we may have no other option.
Big phil certainly has passion for Salford City Reds but like Alker, littler and Sibbit are not getting any younger and hopefully we are moving in a different direction
Teams know he has problems getting down low near the line and play on it most weeks and he imo is too easier dominated in a tackle for a man of his size, he has ok go forward and his presence in the pack along with Sibbit and Alker and most recently Littler will certainly given the younger players experience when dealing with the rough and tumble of superleague week in week out over the last couple of years.
It looks like salford are approaching the players who want a chance to prove themselves at this level, It might sound strange but may players SALFORD CITY REDS have been the pinnicle of many a young players career and havnt taken it in the past, hopefully with a better quality of youth around and a bit more money to pay them we'll get a few more who see salford as vehacle to move their careers to the next level and take us with them.
Is true it looks like Phil will be heading back to NZ at the End of the year Mcrae's opinion is that Phil is now to Old and won't be offering him a new contract and to be fair to phil im sure his body is telling him its time to Hang up his boots. But he has been a great community presence for our club and i wish him well for his future plans. Now go out with a bang big man!
