Contractors are being invited to bid for a £15m contract to build a new stadium in Barton for rugby league club Salford Reds.
The scheme is a joint venture between Manchester-based property company Peel Holdings and Salford City Council.
The stadium will be built on a 45-acre site next to Peel's Port Salford scheme. The site is bounded to the North by the A57, to the East by the elevated M60 Barton Bridge and Eccles Water Treatment Works, and to the South by the Manchester Ship Canal.
The contract covers the construction of a stadium with capacity for between 12,000 and 15,000 people across four stands with room to expand to 20,000 capacity.
The stadium will also feature two community pitches as well as the main playing surface, community changing facilities and parking for 500 cars and 20 coaches.
Up to six contractors will be shortlisted and invited to tender for the job in July.
Firms have until 23 April to submit pre-qualification questionnaires.
The stadium is scheduled to be completed in 2012
