Every company should have an "opt-in" policy regarding passing on personal info, adding you to mailing lists etc. I'm sick to death of being spammed and no matter how many times I ask to be taken off said mailing lists I keep getting bombarded.

Most do, but manipulate the wording so much, with double negatives you need to spend 10 mins on each, going through it word for word to work out where to tick or not.

I believe the DVLA is slightly different though and legislation allowed it to sell data and personal number plates ( no opt in/outs), just a scheme to make money.
