| Hello all,
I'm moving to Guangzhou in China in a couple of months and was wondering if anyone knew anything about getting Super League over there?
I'm going to guess that I stand a better chance in Hong Kong, and my girlfriend is based there. I noticed that they put the NRL on in the bars there, presumably for the benefit of the Aussie ex-pats. That's better than nothing, but if anyone knows of anywhere that shows Super League, please let me know.
Also, does anyone know of any legal ways of watching RL over there? I will resort to illegal ones only if there aren't any packages available in Asia...
Any help greatly appreciated! I was going to post on the international RL forum, but I got the impression no one goes on there. The rest of my year will be very sad with no Rugby League World Cup, no Broncos to get frustrated at, and no Wires to cheer on at inevitably at the Challenge Cup final

| Have you spoken to Sky? i know they have the sky player etc but i presume you would need to pay for the basic package plus sports.
Not sure how you would go on without having a sky dish etc though.

| The World Cup will probably be shown in China, I'm pretty sure the last one was.

Was going to suggest this if it's an option. I used software called expatshield when living in Germany for a year and skygo works fine with it (this was using my parents' user name/password, they live in the UK and have a normal sky account).

| I lived in HK for a couple of years (admittedly, I came back about ten years ago). Back then their cable provider was Star, a sister company of Sky. They would have a one hour review of the NRL. The only SL was on clibs from BBC 24, which was very rare.
The only game I can recall seeing live was Aus V GB in the one off 2002 test.
Also, I am assuming you know that Guangzhou is about 3hours from HK in the KCR train?

| Orbit Showtime 'OSN' is available in Middle East and Asia and has all the Sky games. If you can't get it the best bet to to go for Sky Go

| I'm currently living / working in Bangkok for the next 6 months or so, and my family have stayed in the UK. We have SKY in England, including Sky Sports. You're not allowed to watch Sky outside of the UK due to broadcasting rights, however you can download and install a VPN, which routes your IP Address to a UK server giving the impression that you are in the UK. I use a VPN called MyExpatUK on my Ipad, which cost approx. £5 per month via recurring paypal debit. It's pretty stable, and if you have a good internet connection, it will stream no problem.
A VPN is also needed for BBC Iplayer, ITV Catchup, 4OD, etc, as you have to be in the UK to use them too.
The VPN enabled me to watch most of the magic weekend live, via streaming, on the SkyGo app (the last matches were a bit late, local time, unfortunately). You can now, however, pay sky an extra £5 per month to be able to download and watch some programmes at leisure via SkyGo+ (although you can't download onto an Ipad, just a PC).
My apartment has cable with quite a few aussie channels including sports meaning I can get some NRL too.
Cheers.

expat shield works fine...if you are a sky subscriber (or you know one) then you can watch SL Live on your computer, laptop, Phone etc...
I would never condone using free streaming sites, but I am told if you google something like"watch free sky sports" links to these terrible sites of sin do appear,,,,
The world is certainly getting smaller.

Thank you so much for all the very helpful responses. I think the route I'm going to go down is getting software, something like 'expat shield' would be very useful, particularly as other stuff like Facebook etc. is also off limits in China. Do any of the posters know how fast it is? I do have a nightmare scenario that I sign up for something like that and then it runs at a snail pace....
Yep, I know about this distance between Guangzhou/Hong Kong, though my girlfriend is up in the New Terrotories, and apparently if I get one of the fast trains I can get there within 2 hours....we'll see.
I'm toying with the idea of going to the Rugby 7s and various Union matches....I hate Union, but I imagine that I might be the only 'Rugby' I get to see.
I REALLY hope the rumour about Melbourne Storm coming to Shenzen is true-

Hi there. Loads of league available in HK. For Super League and challenge cup you need to subscribe to Eurosport through now Tv. They Show every televised game live or on delay and numerous repeats throughout the week. Think It's available on the basic sports pack but sure as I automatically receive it through my plan. For the NRL, championship, SOO and ANZAC tests you'll need setanta. Again they show all the games live or on delay with numerous repeats throughout the week. think its about HK$150 a month and you might have to take out an 18-24 month contract. If you're wanting to watch in bars then SoHO, Wan Chai would be your best bet but would depend on the AFL schedule as that seems to be more popular with aussie ex-pats.
Regarding the 7's. Last year only about 6000 out of 40,000 were released to the general public through a ballot but think you may have to be a member of the HKRU or an affiliate club to enter. The rest tend to go to sponsors and tour groups but if you know the right people you can pick them up.
Hope this helps.
