| 1986 Aussie tourists at rooftop gardens/casanovas in Wakey. Had a few drinks with Greg Alexander, who introduced me to the rest of the squad who was present such as Wally Lewis, Brian Niebling, Les Davidson and Greg Dowling, who just growled.
Excellent night (at least I now know why Greg has the nickname "BRANDY" ) and great company except for the bad head the following morning

| Billy Boston, wonderful man, a pleasure to speak with.
Stuart Fielden, very friendly guy, found it hilarious we had matching shiners from playing RL a few days earlier, always willing to chat. I've also seen him standing in the middle of groups of fans taking all sorts and just smiling and chatting politely.
Trent Barrett was a friendly and polite chap, if a little quiet, was still happy to talk.
Shaun Edwards - certainly wouldn't ask him for a hug but was still happy to take time for a chat and to sign my shirt.
Feka - awesome, very friendly and always smiling unless you're an abusive bus driver.
Clarkey! Always a likeable chap.
To be fair most sportsmen don't mind a few minutes out of their time. I've met most of the 80s and 90s United squads and the All Blacks back around 1995-ish, all nice enough guys. Roy Keane and Denis Irwin buying our drinks was a nice touch.

Some off of here posted a picture of a pint of Guinness on facebook. I compared it to Ryan Bailey when he had blonde hair last year. The upload quickly removed my observation as Baileys best mate frequents that profile!

| Quote: dally messenger "good guys - nathan blacklock, paul gallen, karmichael hunt, glen stewart, ade gardner, one other st helens player, i think wellens
idiots - anthony watmough, billy slater'"
Bumped into Nathan Blacklock in A video shop in Cronulla. Came across as a nice bloke.
My all-time favourite is Andy Greg. Lovely fella. He has his faults and his problems are well documented but he's a really nice chap.
Got to know Braith Anasta. Nice bloke. One night out i spent most of the time drinking and chatting to Eric Groethe Jnr and Adrian Lam. Both were a great laugh.
Nearly got into a fight with Darrell Trindall for simply walking into a toilet in a pub when he was doing something he shouldn't. Another RL international walked in and threatened to smash him if he didn't calm down.
Dave Peachey was another nice bloke. Bit shy but he warmed up after a while.
Grade A idiots were Shannon Heggarty and Matthew Johns. And Willie Mason is the most miserable person I have ever met.

| Quote: Adrian "Biggest idiot I've ever encountered in a rugby league context was David Solomona during the GB v NZ test at Knowsley Road about 4 years ago.
He'd just come off after a stint, and as he sat down on the bench, a couple of teenage girls a few steps away from the bench started whooping and hollering their support, while some bloke further back shouted 'tit' (or something to that effect).
Solomona immediately turned on the two teenage girls and screamed "come here and say that to my face then, you b******". They were petrified, as you might imagine!'"
Just have to stick up for Solomona there.
On Wakey's first trip to Perpignan in 2006, a few fans were on the same flight as the players going home. When milling around in Perpignan airport, most of the players kept themselves to themselves, except for Solomona who approached fans, not the other way around, and showed them the stitches in his mouth. He could have kept on walking, but he made a point of going up to the fans unprompted. Monty Betham was the same.

| Have met Paul Sculthorpe a number of times and was a pleasure to meet. Even remembered me one of the times
Met Stan Wall in Perpignan in 2006, a true gentleman and talked to us for about half an hour.
Talked to Paul Cullen for about 5 minutes a few years ago, he was watching his son play in a tournament. Was really willing to talk to us, even though he was there watching his son.

| Funny enough being a Saints fan I met quite alot of the successfull Wigan team because of where I worked, the friendliest was Joe Lydon, great bloke and really funny. One of the best dinner speakers I have heard.
edit...
Nearly forgot about Keith Northey, he used to teach at Edmund Arrowsmiths in Ashton -in-Makerfield, he used to tell great stories about rugby, really nice bloke

Always had time for everyone and nothing was to much trouble right up until the day he died, true gent R.I.P.

The Willie Horne book was a fantastic read
Spoke to Jordan Turner recently who was very approachable and another ex-Salford man in Karl Harrison is a quality coach and person.

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_10174.png |

| Strangely enough, I always thought Agent Millward was a good bloke for a chat about rugby
Met Eddie and Stevo once, a bit worse for wear in one of the lounges at Wigan after a game against Bradford. Eddie was quite ignorant and walked straight through without acknowledging anyone but Stevo hung around and had a chat, really genuine nice fella.
Billy Slater gets bad press IMO, he didn't seem to mind having a photo with me in Paris and he hardly flinched when I wiped beer drippings off my hand down the back of his International blazer. Cheers Bill
