| Quote The Devil's Advocate="The Devil's Advocate"Well, the amount of lobbying from the Loiners to rally the “R.L. Family” into voting for Sinfield is thoroughly enjoyable

We are the most myopic bunch of supporters in Christendom & I’m sure, if it was say Tomkins up for the award, the majority of Leeds fans would rather stick pins in their eyes than spend three bob promoting the game.'"
You're not wrong actually. (Albeit you cannot compare Tomkins to Sinfield in terms of professionalism and what he has given the game)
Sadly RL fans have a huge club mentality. Always have and it gets right on my t!ts. When it comes to internationals 90% of RL fans are "Why isnt [i*insert my clubs three best players*[/i in there". Its about time, and actually the latest international series seemed to be a stepping stone, that all fans from all clubs grasp the bigger picture.

I'd have no problem voting for Logan Tomkins if he got nominated, can't see that happening though
To be fair, Sam is halfway through his career. A better example would be Paul Wellens. A one club man that was right up there with Sinfield for appearances and representing what his club was all about. If he were nominated I wouldn't hesitate to vote for him.

Yep but it’s not about rewarding a player who’s had a glittering club career though is it.
It’s purely about the achievements of a sportsman/woman in 2015.
Has Sinfield had a stellar season this year, well not IMO, has he been a great servant to the Leeds club, for sure, but the award isn’t for career achievements.
But let’s be fair, it’s very rare that the winner plays in a team sport & the only time a Union player won was when England took the World Cup!
It’s a pure pipedream that Sinfield will win the thing, even though the Leeds fans are being swept along on a tide of dewy eyed emotion.

| You can vote for free with a BBC ID, I'll certainly be voting for Sinfield and Leeds aren't exactly one of the clubs I might have a soft spot for (despite battering the dobbins in the CC final ) but I respect the rugby they played this year and whatever the reason he was nominated for he's on the list so gets my vote and I normally wouldn't bother.
It'd be one in the eye for the establishment, a great coup for RL and whatever Sinfield might think about the whole process it'd be good for him too and a fitting culmination to his career.

I think you're right, but I reckon we can get him in the top 3 and on the stage.

| Quote RhinoNeil="RhinoNeil"If you're an RL fan then VOTE KEV. Simple as that. Imagine having an RL player as SPOTY?? (YES AN RL PLAYER NOT A UNION PLAYER. ALL THE VT'S THAT ARE BEEN FILMED ARE RL RELATED) The profile that will do for the sport will be immense! No 3"x3" column on the latter sports pages of the times...Back page Kevin Sinfield of the Northern game called Rugby League on the back page of every national newspaper....Not to mention getting one over Union again this year after their poor WC campaign. I'm not just saying this because its Kevin Sinfield. I would still urge everyone to vote even if it was Tomkins... RL is the bigger picture here.
I'll be voting all night. 100 times if time allows, and that will only be £15.'"
Back pages??? Thats just fantasy,he could win it and it really wont have the impact many are believing it will

Sinfield captained Leeds in a season they won every competition available to them. That is a pretty stellar season.
Id agree that Sinfield has played better, id even agree that he has been more important to leeds in some years, but there hasnt been a more successful year, and there hasnt been a year he has achieved more.

| Just got to love the piece in the Radio Times - Christmas Edition, SPOTY feature :
"Kevin Sinfield - a rugby league-turned-union convert: don't let the Leeds hero become another Sam Burgess"
Oh, nothing about treble winning captain then.....

Possibly is a step far that he'd win it but he currently sits third favourite with the bookies and his odds have continued to lower and he's not far behind Ennis-Hill in 2nd in their eyes.
We also know it's a career nomination, but then again is that a bad thing? Is bringing the curtain down on a near 20 year career with a treble and that has seen him be arguably the best captain in ANY British sport over the last 20-25 years not as worthy as a boxer winning one fight or an F1 driver winning in a massively superior car?
Ryan Giggs, AP McCoy, Phil Taylor are just some names recently whose career added to their success that year helped them to the top 3. Even Steve Redgrave didn't get in the top 3 in the years he won his first 3 gold medals, when he won his 4th he came second and then finally won when he collected his 5th gold medal so his career was clearly taken into account and none of his 3 teammates in the 2000 boat were nominated.

| I'm a saints fan. The guy was instrumental in sending me home from OT gutted 5 years in a row. But I'm still going to vote for him.
Im sick of hearing on here how the BBC hate rugby league (laughable I know!) so now is the chance to do something about it
kind regards

| I will be voting for him, and I could echo many previous threads, but he has put our penny ante sport in the mix, now it is our chance to show that we as a sport do have a following, a significant following, a passionate and vocal following. One that has the ability to put one of our own to be in the running for BBC SPOTY.
