Seems a pretty important part of team sport really. If we arent judging sportsmen what they achieve or how they perform what are we judging them on?

Simply because it doesnt fit your theory about Brough never putting together a decent season?

How can it be such a terrible measure of a players quality when you look at the winners of it.
Strangely in 2010/2011 the same winner of the Albert Goldthorpe medal won the man of steel award.
In all except 2008 the medal winner has featured in the super league dream team.

because in team sports, a player can only achieve things with his team, its not a way of gauging how good a player is because of what the team he plays for achieves.
i don't think anyone can deny that garry schofield wasn't a good player,but by judging what he achieved as a team player then that would say he wasn't very good because his team didn't win things .

Because it favours a certain type of player and it excludes players for a fairly silly reason.

Garry Schofield was a very skilful player, whether he was good or not was entirely dependent on whether his head was up his that day or not. Nobody could question his skill, he made his quality very easy to question because his contribution often fell too far.
Besides I haven’t argued Brough isn’t a good player because he hasn’t played in the important games, I’m saying he hasn’t played in the big games because he hasn’t been good enough to do so.
