Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

They could do two days of three matches with he other team having a match somewhere else in the season or even just have magic weekend for the top 8 teams and do it over a day.'"
Still waiting for you to explain this ?

Get LEIGH outta wigan: |
|
| Quote: gutterfax "Bidding process starts with a letter sent to every club, outlining the plans and highlighting the Franchises available and the preferred conditions:
Total cost of a Franchise is 10 million investment guarantee with 5 million paid up front and released back at 1 million a year over the term of the Licence....Money held in escrow by SKY!
2 Million in TV revenue guaranteed from SKY for each Franchise.
I suspect if the financials stacked up, as in guaranteed 2 million a year TV cash for 5 years in return for a guaranteed 2 million a year investment per year from the Franchise owner, then these 10 owners would be scrambling around to get their clubs up to speed by the end of the 5th year. 10,000 ST holders at 200 quid a pop should be the target.....if the Franchises swallow the direct debit costs then that's less than a fiver a week for fans.
Attendances, Sponsorship, corporates etc...all of these would be down to the Franchise owners. No more hobbyists, but hard nosed businessmen you can see the benefit of 130,000 customers a year paying 15 quid each at the gate, 15 quid each at the bar/shop and the sponsors and corporates they would attract....
It only becomes complicated if you start playing politics.....ie, a few chairmen moaning about 1 game a year when away fans don't come....that's why SKY would own this lock stock and 2 smoking barrels. If an owner wants to whinge, then he can love off and play with BARLA/ The RFL.
If the Hull Franchise knows that they have London 1 coming once this year and London 2 twice, then that's when you look to attract NEW FANS to games.......buy 1 get 3 free if need be..at a tenner a ticket, that's a tenner more than you would have had if you don't do anything and the chance of money being spent in the ground and potential returning customers. In the scenario above, if Hull attracted 1,000 new fans paying a tenner to each game and brought 3 mates for free and they all has a 3 quid pint, then that's 66k in revenue and 12,000 potential new customers.....it's how Wigan under Lenegan have grown their base....not whining like a bitch from St Helens
I would love to pay to watch this league with some of the best players from Europe and the southern hemisphere plying there trade in it. It really would 'show off' the greatest game to the masses

Are you taking the bet as you were adamant it would be Ft v PT in the middle eight?

The thing is John , this was essentially the original SL ' Dream ' and as I recall , everybody liked it , as long as their club was part of it and retained their identity , unfortunatly it required clubs to give up that identity
So it will never happen
Look at ' Super Rugby ' down under to see the concept
The top team in Wellington was the Lions , they remain playing in the national competition , however the Hurricanes were formed and play in SR

| If London drop out, I wouldn't plant Featherstone in Super League for 2014. Just run with 13 teams. Then only the bottom team is relegated in 2014. The SL clubs would have fewer fixtures (but with the same SKY money) so they should be happy.
IF they want an extra match to partly compensate there could be two magic weekends. Each with 12 teams (6 matches over two days). Exclude say Wakefield from the first and say Cas from the second. Then they could play each other in a derby (at Featherstone?) to even up the matches played instead of having a bye one weekend. Or make it the last match of the season.
PS Can't find a 'tongue in cheek' smillie

I woud rather you explain why you can't do it. The RFL have said they are willing to go with 13 teams next year.

| On the other hand, put Featherstone in SL and promote three instead of two to the Championship from Championship 1, making the latter an eight team league for 2014.

I would love to watch my club Halifax RLFC. Whatever competition. I wouldn't pay to go and see the fanciful stuff in Gutterfax's post - as admirable and utopic it is. But that's just me and countless thousands of other like minded current RL fans. What Gutterfax's scheme would do is create new fans BUT, you can't just turn on new fans at the flick of a switch. It's a pipe dream and depends on forward thinking movers and shakers and brave risk takers. RL doesn't have any. It's a northern sport. Always will be.

It will be. Paying someone £40k instead of £20k so he can train in the local fitness first instead of being a plumber does not a full-time player make.

| I really don't understand all the talk about not being able to run the "Magic" weekend with an odd number of teams. Just invite the Championship GF winner to take part. Simples.
We are about to undertake a major restructure with a return to P & R by merit. To simply put a random team in now would once again make a mockery of the RFL

How would that work in terms of league points and deciding which SL team gets a freebie fixture against a championship club?

You can't run a league with an odd number of games and an odd number of teams. It is mathematically impossible.
By season's end, one team will have played one game less than the rest. You'd have to cancel the Magic Weekend.
I sincerely hope the RFL's back up plan isn't to run with 13 teams because they clearly wouldn't have thought this through.
