| It's a form of gamesmanship to pretend to ground the ball but then move inside to improve the angle for the goalkicker. It's possible for players to have a clear run at the line, be about to plant the ball and then realise there are no defenders nearby, and as a result move towards the posts before grounding the ball. That doesn't happen that often though.
If players get a reputation for feigning grounding the ball, then the opposition teams are going to get wind of this. The only way that a single player can realistically stop another player scoring when he's already over the line is a) knocking the ball out of his hands as he's attempting to ground it (see John Pendlebury vs. Mark Elia in the Challenge Cup final 1987!); b) somehow manage to get some part of their body under the ball (almost impossible 1 on 1); or c) whack him with a massive ball and all tackle to try and dislodge the ball.
The problem comes when said player (with reputation) does ground the ball but then saunters across the in-goal area celebrating and ends up getting whacked for his troubles.

Perhaps I will, perhaps I won't.
On the basis it appears to annoy you to distraction, I reckon I'll carry on.
Cracking use of the English language there by the way. I can only imagine you a delight to have an insightful and thought provoking conversation with.

| Last season, against Hull KR as it happens, a Fev player (Knowles I think) was over the line with the ball and could have scored, instead he set off to put the ball behind the sticks, and a Hull KR player came and knocked it out of his hand. And serve the Fev player right. Had he scored we'd have beaten Hull KR instead of drawing. That's taking a risk to improve the angle, what Shaul did was tantamount to cheating. But then his smirk when he got sinbinned for obstructing Briscoe says wall we need to know about him doesn't it?

Cheating? Are you real. The guy doesn't ground the ball so is entitled to carry on and ground it closer to the posts, nothing illegal and certainly not cheating. Give up now before you embarrass yourself even more.

I'd be more concerned that the defender doesn't make Shaul ground it. Rather than having a pop at Shaul, he should look closer to home for the problem.
Cheating? Don't make me laugh

The summary is wrong on the RFL website (surprise, surprise!) When you click on the details of where it says 'no charge' this is what you see:-
www.rugby-league.com/article/524 ... ghts-cases
It looks like it is a two match penalty.

Is pretending to pass the ball (aka throwing a dummy) cheating as well??
Are you the RL equivalent of a snowflake?

It's up to the defending team to prevent him scoring, either out wide or, under the sticks.
If he wasnt's to risk taking the ball closer to the sticks then, that's up to him but, he may get tackled etc
Where do you stand on dummy runners ?

So every time a player crosses and appears to put the ball down they are fair game for floppers, or any other form of trying to hurt a player who's just scored? Shaul had his back to the tackler and appeared to ground the ball. As long as its understood that a player who appears to have just scored is open to be tackled and tackled hard fair enough. But we all know that won't be the case.

Until a player actually scores of course they may be tackled.
As for any "afters", that would be up to the ref to deal with and the longer the player takes to put the ball down, ie feigning a score and then moving closer to the sticks, the more likely he is to be tackled.
Any foul play during the act of scoring or just after, could result in a penalty try so, it's not really in anyone's interests to get involved in too many afters.
However, you would want the defending side to make every effort to prevent a score.
