I imagine there is a varied cross section of people who reside in the vicinity of the M62. Circa 7m people live in the counties surrounding it. I imagine they range from cleaners to directors. What other sport had the potential to reach so many people for relatively small cost?

Don't the sky figures suggest SL has viewers outside the m62? Eurosport shows SL in Australia for starters.

I think for any company wishing to make a hop from struggling to gain mass advertising and get into the mainstream the SL image rights would be a good place to start.

Generally though its usually friends of the game who work in marketing at these companies that usually get the rights in, rather than an outside company.

Usually sports league sponsors come from betting and alcohol companies. Though if I bid 10p to sponsor SL, that would still be more than Stobart paid.

I don't care who sponsors SL. Alcohol and Betting companies are no less moral than any other type.
If the RFL hadn't said they were going to announce the sponsor soon there wouldn't be an issue, but this silence lends us to believe something has gone wrong
