On an obscure free-to-air TV channel which hardly anyone in Australia tunes in to unless they consider themselves both economically and culturally a part of the rl"bogan"rl demographic.

If people want to watch the games it doesn't matter what channel it is on. I'm sure if the world cup was on an obscure Freeview channel over here people would still watch it in great numbers.

Oh... so long as the "already converted to RL minority who are also interested in the RLWC" are watching, that's ok then? What about reaching out to the other 97% of the population who don't watch 7mate? People do not watch obscure TV channels aimed at minority interests in great numbers no matter what is being televised. That's why they are obscure TV channels aimed at minority interests.

7Mate is Channel 7's only High Definition channel and is seen as their sports channel (It carries AFL and other sports).

No different to the 2011 Union World Cup being shown on Channel 9's equivalent 'bogan' HD sports channel GEM...

It's still an obscure TV channel which isn't watched by very many people. Why can't the Seven network show some of the RLWC games on it's higher profile channel Seven instead?


No different? You are being rather economical with the facts there aren't you? Every game in the RUWC of 2011 was shown live on Fox Sports via Foxtel or Austar, 9 games were shown live on Channel Nine itself whilst they showed some on GEM. That is a very different situation to the coverage of the RLWC of 2013 which is being broadcast in it's entirety on an obscure blokey/matey/bogan TV channel whose TV audience usually hovers around 2% to 3% of the total TV viewing population.

Lets see what the figures are then we can rejoice or critisice. Fact is this is the first time a RLWC has had every game shown live in Australia. It is a big step forward. Maybe not as big as we would have liked but it still a positive and getting Ch7 back in with RL is another positive step, pumps up the price even further next NRL bidding round.

Geez RL fans (and Union trolls) can moan!
