| Quote: SmokeyTA "not really, Leeds, Saints, Warrington, Wigan, Salford, Hull, Huddersfield, all have better English stand offs,
and Bradford, castleford, and Quins all have far fewer overseas players, and far more academy products in their sides,
it seems to be just a Hull KR and Wakefield thing'"
So, to recall a previous thread, you would not expect a relatively new club to SL like Rovers to win the Grand Final or Challenge Cup but you do expect them to have a youth system on par with Leeds Wigan Saints etc. While at the same time investing hundreds of thousands in stadium improvements.
Still you do have a point, Leeds have beaten a Rovers team packed with average imports home and away this season...oh hang on

Not a lot of English lads in that Catalan side ...
Seriously, though, I don't care too much about some clubs with lots of foreigners, what I don't like is that KR have some pretty low quality foreigners in the mix, they should have better quality than that by now!
It is a shame that FC have better links to the amateur clubs in East Hull though.

And yet those "low quality" foreigners got us into the playoffs for the second season running! Go figure...

Well Newton and Galea have played apart in NRL Grand Final Winning Sides and made last years Super League Dream Team. Newton is the joint top try scoring forward in the league and as a pair they perform brilliantly
Vella, Mason and Clinton have all played for Austrailia and two of the 3 have played origin
Dobson has made the SL Dream Team for the last two seasons and won the Albert Goldthorpe medal last year as well as creating more trys this season than any player except Rangi Chase
Jake Webster is a Kiwi International
Lovegrove is in the players eyes the player of the season as per his award at the clubs recent dinner
But i'll give you Fisher, got a very good long contract from the club when we were desperate and although we tried to offload him in pre season we had no look.I anticipate we'll try again in this off season as he is entering the final year of his deal

| You would think Hull KR finished bottom of the pile judging by a few of these posts.
Smokey makes some interesting and fair points, but what benefit is it anyone if they are 'shoved' into the mix?
Can you not understand a Mason esque signing should only be beneficial to the young crop of English players at Rovers already.
If you look at across the team, the likes of Latus, Mariano, Watts and to a lesser extent Welham have all developed sufficiently this year.
Like what has been said before, why is signing a Blake Green over I'anson a bad move? If the 'English' talent isn't there, which has been proved after trying I'anson out in many games, he's had more of a chance! (Personally, i don't think hes a bad player but...)
Oh, and a last point is Paul Mcshane really some kind of superstar that some pundits profess he is? Every time I see him, he has been average at best...

Don't be daft he's absolutely sensational he's only not getting in the team because of that well known Englishman Danny Buderas

| Quote: SCF "Im unsure where this pool of Super League standard English players is?
Do you know of a trick wherein a first class academy and group of young British talent is granted upon promotion to SL? Because if you do please show me.
We are making a long term investment in producing our own players and this is coming into fruition now.
As for our club not taking a risk on English players?
Paul Cooke
Scott Wheeldon
Danny Ward
David Mills
Josh Hodgson
Shaun Briscoe
[iPeter Fox[/i
Mike Ratu
Matt Cook
Liam Watts
Liam Colbon
Chev Walker
Few risky ones in there im sure youll agree? Coupled with first team outings for Kris Welham, Scott Spaven, Frankie Mariano, Sam Latus and Scott Taylor. We're just about where we should be with progression.'"
With Fox, the risk was Wakefields when they took him from York, He proved himself at Belle Vue then went to HKR for more £'s

| And this from a team that had to merge to be saved and played with a team with 99% of them being Aussies please correct me if I'm wrong but us having 10 is better than a 19 man squad

At the time the players needed to be signed to be exempt from the quota, Hull KR had an overseas dispensation, because of this they have more players who qualified for the exemption than other teams,'" Are you sure it was us?
IIRC it was a player who was an awful lot nearer yourselves that threatened the RFL which forced a rule change.

As i said, Mason isnt the issue, its Mason + Newton, Galea, Dobson, Webster, Lovegrove, Vella, Clinton, Fisher, Green
Mason likely will benefit the young crop of English players, Lovegrove, Clinton, Fisher and Green wont.

Because Blake Green has prove nothing more than I'anson. Green is 23 and has 39 first grade appearances, I'anson is 23 and has 33. They are basically at the same stage of their development yet Hull KR are taking an opportunity from a young unproven english player and giving it to a young unproven Aussie. Something they have done with Lovegrove and Fisher previously.
Quote: ChampagneSuperRovers "

Hang on did we lose 3 and gain 1 last year (Out Fitzy, Gene, Macca)(In Clinton)?
This year we will probably lose 1 and gain 2(Out Fisher)(In Mason, Green).
So in the last 2 years we have had a net loss of 1 none SL trained player.
That cant be right can it?

Then add the fact that Vella cant have long left in him
That would mean another 1 going then next season.
Galea the year after probably.
Who would have thunk it HKR sheading none SL trained players.
