Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

| Quote: littlerich "There's a few other clubs that fall into this net too. Why single out Wakey?'"
the other clubs being salford, and cas.
you cant mean saints or bradford because they are too big for poor stadiums to cost them their SL spots.
1. salford - offer massive potential for expansion if the ground gets done.
2. cas - a stronger SL club than wakey despite a smaller population. the jungle looks a better ground than BV. not by much, but it is. with both clubs close by and widnes waiting in the wings, one has to go.
wakey have been promising to improve BV for years and done zero. their council has shown they cant deliver. kicking one club out of SL could force both clubs to look more closely at a ground share, or it could be a kick in the bum for council to build a ground or lose their SL team forever.
wakey are the perfect example of whats wrong with RL in england. the game will never come close to the nrl whilst there are clubs like this in SL.

What you seem to be ignoring is the fact that next time around the franchise bid will be scored on the RFL's 10 point plan and it is possible to pick up points for things like home grown players in the SL squad, crowd size over 40% capacity and average placing in the previous 3 years non of which are effected by the state of the ground. If both Cas and Wakey score 5/6 on this scale I don't see how either could (by the RFL's own rules) be denied a license.

wakey are gone unless they start construction work on their new ground
can they get approval from council, funding and start construction within 2 years - no way in hell.
barring something going wrong in widnes, they are gone irrespective of other criteria measures

maybe one day the RFL will get rid of P&R and replace it with franchising?

cas will remain in SL next time even if they dont get a new ground, wakey wont.
after one of them is kicked out of SL i expect council to take things more seiously
also i expect then a move to a shared ground will accelerate given neither club looks like being able to go it alone

I don't think it's that easy. As we both know what the RFL want, the RFL will ensure happens. Toulouse, Barrow and Widnes in for Castleford, Wakefield and Salford would be so easy to do.
The council is too small and doesn't have the financial power to "take things more seriously." They cannot fork out £20m for a new stadium, otherwise they would have done it before now.
A shared ground will NEVER happen. If Cas don't get their new ground, they'll redevelop The Jungle. Anyway, I expect you to be proved wrong and for Cas to have full planning permission and start building on their stadium in 2010.

| cas still have a big funding shortfall in their stadium.
SL cant afford both cas and wakey in it in poor stadiums with widnes waiting, and even clubs like halifax moving on the ground. heck if leigh get their act together they are a good chance as well.
one of wakey / cas to be sacrificed for a heartland club outside SL with a new ground ie widnes.
barrow are ZERO chance at SL.

Says who? Provide evidence for this, please? Or is that what you've read from some of the Wakefield posters on here, who to be fair know as much as me (who lives 2.5 miles from Cas) and you, who lives 10000 miles away.

What does SL get out of Cas playing out of a new ground apart from being aesthetically pleasing? Nothing. At the end of the day, whether Cas play at The Jungle or the ground at Glasshoughton the fans will still stick by them and stand by them.

1. all ive read is cas dont have funding for the ground sorted and that was months and months ago. the last i heard theyd asked council to make up the difference. until i hear the funding has been sorted ill stick with what ive said.
2. why should clubs have new grounds - dumb question. why should clubs even have big crowds?
ill give you a hint - warrington, FC, and Huddersfield. or even wigan.
small town clubs have no chance of competing with the bigger clubs in older stadia
even saints and bradford will one day be at risk in SL if they dont move to new / improved grounds, its just that there are many smaller clubs in s**t grounds who will go before them
