whoosh.
my point is the RFL dont owe any favours to NL1 and 2 clubs that arent expansion clubs. they arent in SL cause they dont derserve it

| so to sum up :
heartland clubs couldnt expand the game more than a few streets from their home grounds for 70 years because transport systems were so poor and these clubs are only doing it now because of the RFLs franchise criteria.
yeah some of these heartland clubs are the bedrock of the sport

Luck is a combination of preparation and opportunity
Just to avoid confusion Starbug is the username of Steven Pike
SOMEBODY SAID that it couldn’t be done
But he with a chuckle replied
That “maybe it couldn’t,” but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it!:9005.jpg |

Would McDonalds expand into new countries simply because of some altruistic ideal of bringing the Big Mac to people who've never had one before or because it made sense for McDonalds?
Clubs will do what it is in their interests to do. The RFL now have created some measures which align the aims of the clubs with the aims of the sport. And expansion is not solely measured by geography (except by complete imbeciles) if a club can double its fan base, even from the same catchment area, has the sport not expanded?

Spread to where though, the outskirts of Sydney?
It's only fairly recently (late 80's) that Queensland and Mid/Northern NSW got top tier rugby teams and then later on NZ.
Melbourne followed and it's fair to say they've all made a pretty good fist of it.

Those whinging about looking after the heartlands first have had their time, they can't even get people interested from 10 miles up the road, if they are allowed to set the agenda the game will die or worse merge into RU.'"
Exactly how much time? Is it 115 years, 28 years or 4 (for Hull KR) And for what reasons should clubs have expanded the game geographically? How could clubs 115 years ago know what the RFL's licensing criteria for the next round of franchises would be?
Hello, ello, lo. By heck it's deep down there!

39110_1363272058.jpg Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot
Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good
-
sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league
-
Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate
-
the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever
-
Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go
-
Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know

Where would that be? It's pretty easy to expand a competition that until 25 years ago banned non-Sydney clubs into 2 states where RL was already well established and a single club from the whole of NZ (you Aussie trolls even said SL should have a new NZ club so the NRL didn't have to have both), only Melbourne are an expansion club and they're successful due to News Ltd funding alone. SL has 3 clubs outside the north of England, though I suspect that will be back to 2 soon, though eventually back up to 3 with Toulouse.

Of course I want it but until you I value quality and am not impatient. You as good as said yourself you'd rather risk ruining an expansion club and damaging the league than being patient and waiting 5 years (or 3 or 10?) for the time to be right just because you thought it was too long to wait. It really isn't long in the scheme of things and unlike you I'd rather expand right. I suspect you have a hidden agenda of wanting to get rid of expansion clubs by forcing them up early so they fold

| Can we please not let dally derail another thread with the usual "everything the Aussies do is right and England do is wrong" boll*cks. It all ends the same way, he contradicts himself, gets humiliated, then runs off and ruins another thread.
Let's not feed him on this one as well.
If I'm not alone and people agree with me, give me a sign! "Let's make this a dally-free zone".

so for 113 years it was in clubs best interest to do nothing expansion wise.
but now because their SL spots will be determined on it they will do something?
that explains why RL has been neglected for so long in england.
that god for the RFL then for making clubs do what they shouldve been doing a century ago
