| If there is a police investigation into the alleged assault then the silence by Warrington is entirely appropriate.
Remember there are two sides to most 'stories' like this, the papers yet again dramatise it and portray an attack on an 'innocent' victim. That may be the case he may of left the steward with no option, that's for a court of law to decide.

| There was a incident after the Warrington v Hull FC play off game last season. One steward prevented Aaron Heremaia from handing his boots to a Hull fan. A bit of pushing and shoving led to punches being thrown mainly from one idiot steward.
According to a club statement a few days later, Warrington identified the steward in question and were due to meet the security company to ensure that particular individual wasn't used at the HJ again.
I wonder if it was the same steward? To be honest they all looked like EDL type thugs.

I agree that if the police are looking at this then it's right that Warrington don't comment. But what possible situation could leave the steward with no option but to throw numerous punches at a defenceless person while another steward holds his hands behind his back?

The paper wrote a one sided story based on an interview with the alleged victim and a mobile phone video taken by a 'friend'. If you read the comments underneath someone who claims to be a witness says there was a lot more to it. I don't really want to speculate as to what might of happened. All I was saying is don't take a one sided newspaper article as gospel.
The police will look at the evidence, the CPS will press charges if appropriate then magistrates or a jury will decide whether a crime has been committed.

The police will collect and collate the evidence and the CPS will examine it first before deciding whether charges are appropriate

It doesn't matter whether it was the right person or not. Having a high-viz jacket or a little card strapped to your arm does give you carte-blanche to go around assaulting members of the public that you happen to take a dislike to.
Granted, we don't have all the evidence but thus far, there is nothing in that video to suggest that the steward (who is acting as a representative of WWRLFC), is acting in a way that was necessary to defend himself from harm.
A simple "we are aware of reports of an incident and assiting the police with their enquiries" would suffice from the club.
