I actually didn't realise the game was on as early as it was, and only flicked on after 10 minutes, so I didn't see the first try. The second was a decent break, but it wasn't good defending by Leigh, there was a huge gap and they waved him through it. The third was just a pass popped up to Evalds who did all the hard work.

Anyway, I don't doubt his ability to come up with the odd assist. I just see no evidence that he can control a game. His kicking was poor, his decision making was poor, he ran down blind alleys and got caught in possession far too often.

He was directly responsible for three tries with no help from anyone else, and also made a crucial try-saving tackle to dislodge the ball and prevent what looked like a certain try from Kay. That's 24 points directly coming from one player, which to me is a pretty good contribution for a 20-year-old who was operating as a solo halfback with a hooker who had only come into the squad days prior. Again, what game were you watching to single out Fages, who was literally Salford's only good player along with Evalds?

I thought Fages played well too, one of their best players.

Well done Leigh though, thought Salford would see the game out at 18-12 up.

The reason I've singled him out is because with Dobson going off and Chase out it was up to him to control things, and he didn't do it well enough for me, ultimately poor game management was what cost them. It's not just this game either, I've never really seen him have a top game.

That said I thought he was a couple of years older than that now, so maybe I am being a little harsh.

I understand what you're saying but it's very difficult for any halfback to do everything by himself, unless you're Andrew Johns. At the same time Salford were in clear control after 65 minutes and would've won the match if Jones-Bishop hadn't thrown a stupid interception and then come up with a poor defensive play from the scrum minutes later, so if you're looking for anyone to blame then blame him.

Both of you are correct. Fages did great, but as a dupe league half back I expect more. Especially under the circumstances we had. Not slagging him but he is part of the reason we lost. Really poor game management

Add Fui Fui Moi Moi and Penky to that Leigh side and we would have been a class above what we were today. I know Salford were missing some key men but worth pointing out that Leigh were missing some important players too.

Played with 16 men as well as I don't think Worthington ever made an appearance off the bench.

Great game and the atmosphere at Leigh was buzzing. Regretting not backing Leigh at 3 to 1 now!

Shouldn't get drawn in to tit for tat but we were down to
15 after 20 mins or so with already a fair chunk of first team our. That said no way making excuses, just making your post realistic

Great day out, great atmosphere, great stadium. Not the best game due mainly to poor handling, but friendly fun and thank you Leigh.

Got to say a big well done to Leigh and goid luck in the next round. Gutted to be out of the cup but no disgrace losing to a team as entertaining as Leigh are. They played some great (if at times kamikaze!) Rugby and it's clear to.see why they're putting 50+ on pretty much all Championship teams at the.minute. I.actually thought we were controlling, if not killing off, the game after 65 minutes and bar BJB's brain fart we would've gone on to see the game out. I'm not going to talk about the injuries and suspensions as happens in sport and Leigh coped better with their missing players. As for some of the b1tching about Fages, no one is saying he's a world beater but some of the muppets on here are going on as if he's Championship 1 standard! Hopefully Tony Smith will read your posts and decide not to tap him up....



At least now the game's done and dusted we might get some peace and quiet on our board from the Leigh numpties!



Oh and in total agreement about Patterson... minimum yellow IMO and at the time thought he was lucky not to see red. Couple of other dodgy incidents were overlooked as well and Bentham made his usual raft of baffling decisions but no excuses.... well played Leigh and good luck in the next round!
