| Quote: Wellsy13 "In football that may be the case, as there are literally thousands of teams at domestic level, and hundreds at international level.
In RL however, there is only a handful of each, and RL shirts tend to be a bit more distinctive than football shirts (which are more generic).'"
Actually, something that bugs me quite a bit about RL strips is that despite the relatively small number of clubs there are loads of clashing kits. I realise there's not much we can do now about teams having similar traditional colours but I do wish they'd have had a bit more imagination at their inception. I mean, out of 14 clubs, 6 of them have a variety of red and white, while Warrington alternate their kit to a Leeds kit every other year.

So which SL clubs would you say have clashing kits?

Go on I'll bite.
Wigan
Salford
Hull KR
Saints
Crusaders
Catalans
all the above play in a variety of a red and white.
Then of course Warrington and Leeds.

I'm not asking you to bite. I'm genuinely interested to know which shirts you consider to be a clash of colours.
I don't consider the 'red' of Wigan to clash with the red and white of Saints. Totally different styles of shirt. Totally different colours.
The Leeds / Warrington ones yes.

Crusaders are red and green.
The rest, yeah they're red and white (something I've talked about before), but they all have completely different styles. Catalans have yellow as well as Ted on the V, Salford have red as a base with white trim/or whatever they fancy, Wigan hoops, Saints V, Rovers a single red hoop. They're all distinctive whilst using similar colours. None are identical.
You forgot to mention Hull and next year Widnes

Usually, but not always. This year we have barely any white, some years we have more and couldn't both play in our home kit together. Whereas Saints, Catalans and KR all have mostly white with red, and Wigan, Salford Crusaders have mostly "red", the point being that nearly half the SL have very similar traditional colours.

They aren't identical, no, but they do all share the same basic colour schemes and don't often stick to the same design (Saints being the exception, though even they stray from time to time). If we had a gallery of all the kits before the season started, minus badges and sponsors, we could have a right guessing game of who was supposed to be who, especially if you had Kooga designs in there. I mean, Rovers have a single red hoop, do they?

And why couldn't Crusaders have stuck with their black/yellow instead of introducing yet another red based kit?

True, but I'd say Bradford/Widnes before Hull/Widnes.

I think 2008 was the year that over half of SL clubs had a majority white kit. Hull had mainly white (with thin black hoops) and white shorts/socks. I think Bradford, Catalans, Saints, Hull KR, Wigan, Wakefield did as well, and on top of that, I think the remaining 5 clubs had a white away kit!

Because it's a totally seperate club.
I think it's a good move to have it closely resembling the Welsh national RL sides shirt too because the Welsh are pretty patriotic people. Throw a group of Welshies a glittery cowboy hat or 3, something red to wear with 3 feathers on it and scream 'Oggy Oggy Oggy' a few times and they will love you forever

Yeah... except it isn't. Unless they've taken to uploading photos of "totally seperate (sic) clubs" on their website and passing them off as part of their own history.

| I think the move to red was more to tie in with Wrexham than with Wales. I don't like it when clubs try and resemble their country too much. They need their own identity. I'd like NZ Warriors to go back to being Auckland and playing in blue, green and white rather than trying to rip off the Kiwis. Of a 2nd club gets in from NZ, it just confuses things.
Club sides should be separate from international sides (in name and shirt style) IMO.

The problem is, who are people from Wellington or Christchurch supposed to support if the Warriors only represent Auckland? The Warriors changed from Auckland to NZ for a reason.
If there is another RL side to come in from NZ it will likely be from Wellington which would basically split the north and south of the north island in half.

| They could support one of the zonal teams, I suppose. That's not to say I don't get the point you're making, but isn't it a bit like saying Catalans should represent France because the people of Toulouse have nobody to support or Warrington should represent Cheshire for the same reasons?

Exactly. Just because they're called Auckland doesn't mean that's only who they represent. It's more to do with that being where they come from in most cases. It's a bit of both though I'd say.
