The semi-pro bit intrigues me, may I ask who with?

Good to see Rohan Smith throw his two penneth behind Wellens. The tackles were the wrong technique and he needs to pack it in. I'm sure he realises it himself, especially if he speaks to Iggy afterwards as they often do when these things occur.'"
Good to see Richard Silverwood sharing his view by saying.........
Despite all of this talk and the dismay that Asiata wasn’t banned, Richard Silverwood has gone on social media to explain why the tackle on Paasi wasn’t foul play:
“As much as you don’t like to see players injured, if Holmes isn’t coming in the other side it is a perfect legs tackle by Asiata. It’s the hit low one side, hit high the other that’s bent Paasi In half. Do we go 1 in the tackle next.
I agree with him.

Having now seen a link to the 2 tackles, which I could replay, I would agree it is a technique that might be questionable, but not malicious. The tackle on Paasi I maintain is copybook, with the arms forward & shoulder into the thigh. Without that level of impact Paasi would have been over. I am more questioning of the Walmsley tackle. He effectively throws his body, head first with arms down, in the way of a rampaging Walmsley's legs. It would be virtually impossible to deliberately time that so he hits at the split second Walmsley's foot is planted, but it doesn't look text book in slowmo.

He's explaining why it isn't against the rules, there's a difference there. I'm not calling for him to be banned. I'm calling for him to not tackle like that. It will cause injury in 100% of the times it's used. He's just speared his body at the knee joint, there's no attempt in either of them to tackle properly. This talk of wrapping and it being a perfect tackle is nonsense, the intent is to throw his shoulder through his knee, the only debate is whether that's fully intentional or just out of desperation. Either way, there's no justification for it. I've got a DM on Twitter from another referee slaughtering Silverwood for elements of that post. He also makes the same ridiculous links to Morgan Knowles as justification for it, so his opinion is as warped as a lot of the Leigh fans.
If it's a perfectly fine tackle and there's no issues with it, Asiata will continue to do it? It's clearly very effective, so why not. I bet you he doesn't attempt anything remotely like that again this season. He'll have been told not to by Leigh.

| Continue to tackle around the legs? Yes, I'm sure he will.
I feel like I'm living in a parallel universe. I didn't think he did anything wrong at the game on Saturday, I didn't see anything to change my mind re-watching the game on Sunday and I still don't see anything wrong with it now despite the hysteria.

The issue isn't tackling the legs, why are you being so childish about it? It's the force and directness and the angle he's doing it from. He's spearing his body into the knee joint and the chances of it causing injury are horrendously high, the knee has nowhere to go and it cannot bend in that direction. Players simply don't tackle like that. Again, I'm not bothered about banning him, I couldn't care less, but we can't be encouraging tackles like that. It's madness.

Because of Wellens bringing the game into disrepute, and death threats as well.
Your club should be utterly ashamed of this, and should be punished and fined.

You're so far off it's unreal. Wellens has been forced to speak out. It needs speaking about. Four players injured in one game, two with very serious injuries. The sport needs to be talking about the nature of those tackles, or it'll have real problems on it's hands. If he's as proud of the technique as you seem to be, I'd be very surprised. I think he'll be regretting it now, outside the heat of the game. Internally Leigh will know they weren't great tackles and hopefully they'll sort it. But you can't expect Wellens to just sit quiet and watch that go unresolved.
