| Quote Donnyman="Donnyman"Whoa there......... YORK performed better than Featherstone over the season. They have a great facility like Fev but I understand it that Mr. Flatman has the money to havily invest and compete whilst the good Mr. Campbell at Featherstone sadly does not.'"
I'd love York to be in SL, just thought it might be a year or 2 too soon.

It would indeed be a French derby and I would pay good money to be there. It could be quite spicy.
As for your 6 hours, bloody hell, Toronto was only 7/8 hours
'"
Over 4 hours round trip but fair point . My point was i wasn't so sure it would necessarily spark a rivalry with fans through the gate !

Mate, I love them both - put them both in with Leigh and go to 14. Not sure about "too soon" if Mr. Flatman can simply buy in quality players, something I don't think Mr. Campbell can do, so that needs considering.
Mr. Campbell tried for Superleague before, but he had Mr. Nahaboo as the money man. Nahaboo fled and Fev failed to get in SL and went dual reg with Leeds....

I still think 25 years later this was the way forward, with some tweaks.
A merger in the WMDC was never a goer and for the umpteenth time there is no place or region called Calder so that was a none starter for a start, the Calder runs into the Aire just outside Castleford, The Aire runs through Castleford on through Airedale ferry fryston onto to Ferrybridge and Knottingley.
Interestingly I am from Castleford but lived most of my life in Knottingley and thats like 50% Cas 40% Fev 10% Other (mostly Leeds), now there was a bit more appetite for a merger round here same in Pontefract. The people most against the merger were people who pretty much could walk to the ground and felt like they had more to lose as they identified with their own town not just their team. Fans from further a field had to travel anyway. Wakey fans seemed more in favour of a merger because lets face it a merged team would probably play in Wakefield and be called Wakefield as the Calder monicker was a none starter.
A merged team in the WMDC was never a goer same as widnes warrington, Hull merger yes, Manchester yes. Cumbria? Not enough population base and traditionally Barrow us a Lancashire town. I think the original Idea could have worked but was badly badly implemented.
But hey thats just me, I’m a Leeds fan from Castleford every games an away game for me. (Except Cas i can walk there)

Well whoever does get in is set to have an even bigger disadvantage than they already have by receiving half the central funding. Its becoming an old boys club is SL. I don't want to use the word corrupt, but it's certainly a case of those in power and with the money looking afyer each other. There's no justifiable reason for whoever comes up to receive less of the money.

| Toulouse for me. Grow the game in France would be great for Catalans to have a derby and would hopefully re ignite the game in the southern France area which has a long long tradition of RL. Strengthen the international game and give a proper competition to England.
London as it is more likely to sell sky boxes.
None of the others bring anything to RL other than adding to what we have at the minute.

| re. funding disparity
I'd say the justifiable reason is that existing SL clubs would have budgeted based on the full Sky TV money, and will therefore have to already face a financial challenge of a shortfall.
Meanwhile the newly promoted club will have additional money to meet SL and full time status, but won't already have the same fixed commitments to meet as existing SL clubs.
So whilst it doesn't seem 'fair' it does seem 'justifiable'.

| Quote wrencat1873="wrencat1873"Your memory is definitely failing you.
Mind you, it's been muted so many times by those in the media and those wanting to shrink the number of clubs in SL, that you can be forgiven.
Even the proposed ground share went down like the proverbial lead balloon but there were plenty of local politics involved.
Leigh or Toulouse for me = more of the same or something new, although Leigh will initially bring some decent away support'"
Yes I remember the ground share was a big issue, and subsequently it failed, but could of sworn Wakey the club perhaps, not the supporters voted yes, as you say with politics and media things get mixed,

| I've grown weary with the whole schtick, the idea of these teams needing to justify their existence in super league based on some abstract idea of what's good for the game. Should always be on sporting merit, on the field. Being as that can't directly be decided, it should be featherstone, as they were runners up from the last completed season.

Come on be fair YORK came third on 39 points and Featherstone were fifth on 34 points and Fev LOST the play off game. Mr. Flatman can afford Superleague Mr. Campbell cannot He's run Fev as dual reg since Nahaboo the money man left..... Anyway.......
[i[u"Among those set to mount a case include Championship Featherstone Rovers, Halifax, Leigh Centurions, London Broncos, Toulouse Olympique, York City Knights, while League One Newcastle Thunder have previously expressed their top flight ambitions".[/u[/i
It's not just Fev that don't have the brass, it's also Halifax. I'd like some [i[ureal expansion[/u[/i so I'd like Newcastle to get in more that anyone else. Mr. Kurdi may well be the richest of the applicants who is best placed to get over the handicap of low central funding, plus if he doesn't get over it he still ends up in the Championship 2022 anyway so it's a win-win for him.....
