Now correct me if I'm wrong but the whole point of the magic weekend is to promote the game, in a response to a question he said something like - I don't care about where we play or the stadium we play in. Now he might have been in a mood because his side could have done a little better but you have to question his attitude. Widnes kicked off the weekend presenting a cheque to the Bobby Robson fund and played in a Newcastle shirt, the following day Anderson says that. Is it any wonder why this sport will never take off in the rest of the country?'"
he is employed to get results for Huddersfield Giants, not to promote RL events
he wasn't happy with our performance and rightly so, what should he have said?
"i'm not happy my team threw away a 16-0 lead and played some awful stuff, but forget that as long as people in the stands are drinking themselves into oblivion then i'm happy"

Not too sure about that. The footage I've seen is some fans in Leeds shirts in an altercation with some fans wearing no colours. Unless someone knows the individuals involved It's just speculation.

regardless of who they support, they let their clubs down, families and themselves all for the sake of having too much ale! maybe the venues should refuse to sell alcohol to people who are cleary drunk! pubs and retailers do, so should sporting venues, but its more money for them

Magic weekend success. Great crowds.. And promoted very well.
How is Andersons comments hindering this?
Great job Widnes too. They have done RL proud and showed what a great club they can be... But why compare it with Andersons match comments? What's it got to do with it?
He should only care about his job. Without good results he isn't achieving what he is paid to do. Underachieving can lead to him losing a job if it happens often enough.
Seems it's pick on everything Huddersfield today reading some of these threads. I didn't know people cared about us. Must have us confused with trophy winning teams. There the ones people care enough to whinge about.

It's one of my bug bears of the big events (Cup Final, GF etc).
Admittedly most of the trouble I've seen has been at Grand Finals (probably because it's a later kick off) but firstly the stadiums shouldn't let people in who are obviously drunk to start with. There's plenty of stewards checking your bags as you go in but no-one challenging the obvious idiots who've been drinking since the early morning.
Then they also get served inside the ground as well.
I know it's not always drink-related, there are plenty of idiots who take RL too seriously and don't need alcohol to instigate a fight, but it must help reduce the incidents and also make it a nicer atmosphere for those of us who can manage a few hours without getting drunk.
I see it a bit like smoking, I don't see why I and my family should have to breathe in somebody else's smoke all game. Fortunately it's banned at stadiums now. I don't want to ban alcohol at grounds as many people can manage to have a drink without being an idiot, but I just wish the stewards were more pro-active at challenging people who are drunk.
From what I've heard I think incidents were few and far between at Newcastle and this is more a rant directed at Grand Finals and the Cup Final.

Agreed. If I were a Hudds fan and Anderson had been all hippy and smiley and "isn't it all wonderful" then I'd have been annoyed.
He is a grouchy bugger though. He needs to lighten up a bit. And realise that forwards can do more than just run and tackle.

| Anderson came out of that very badly, and I hope he has the sense to reflect on that later. It's not a question of being "hippy and smiley", just one of common courtesy and accepting that you're part of something bigger; as MB says, the whole point of MW is to promote the game.

| I don't think it's any coincidence that Huddersfield are playing such tedious, conservative rugby when you hear Anderson's interviews.

| The world isn't black and white. Anderson doesn't have to choose between being 'happy and smiley' or doing his job at Huddersfield. The correct response to the question is along the lines of "It looks like a lot of people have enjoyed a great weekend though obviously our fans will be going home disappointed, as will we". Not really that difficult is it?

He does need to lighten up. I do find his comments very negative at times. I do like a coach with a level a nice level of enthusiasm. If we win it's usually a case a job done.
As for the forwards... I think Anderson is a strict do the hard work first and earn the right to be adventurous. We as a team don't often earn that right so nobody sees it. I was shocked when the off the cuff play to score that last try happened. Maybe Anderson does need to allow his team abit more free play.

Similar stuff with stewards and cops in the same area at the same time yesterday too, Cas fans. Not sure what happened but it was calmed down pretty quickly

Being sat 7 or 8 rows in front of the incident I can assure you they were Leeds fans. I asked someone who obviously recognised the idiots and they confirmed it. A few people in the Car section were ejected on Sunday as well for some sort of disturbance. I'm sure someone else can provide better details as I was a good 50 yards away from the incident. TBH, didn't appear half as bad as the Leeds one where numerous punches were thrown and I believe a woman was hit.

I don't think it helps that many of these events are indirectly 'sold' as a day / week on the pop. Magic Weekend has a 'weekend with the lads' feel about it, to the point where it's actually becoming a bit of a stag do thing. I've certainly seen more of those over the years.
It's probably the reason why we have football clubs being very keen to host it. MCFC coming out and saying publicly that they had never sold so much ale before at an event isn't particularly helpful from a 'discouraging p***heads' perspective.
Of course, the RFL doesn't overtly play on the alcohol aspect, but it's arguably a byproduct of the type of event that it is.

It is an offence to either enter a designated sports ground whilst drunk or to be drunk in a designated sports ground.
SJP tend to manage that very well on football match days. That said, they also have a police presence to support the stewards.

Plenty of fans staggering to seats on Saturday inside the ground.
