No recruits this year to date. A number of the Hunters who were picked up by NRL sides in 2017 have since been released. The "work ethic" has been called into question as an elite RL player needs to eat, think and train RL 24/7 and this isn't how islanders are wired.....PNG players will do well in the QLD/NSW cup, but aren't equipped for the step up to top flight Rugby.
On your first point, I notice that you flock to the defense of the troll known (today) as Sir Kev...are you perchance related?

I think the people raising those questions about work ethic need to look at a couple of flaws in their argument.
1. The ample evidence that modern elite RL players are not all laser-focused athlete-monks
2. However they are wired, islanders have enjoyed massive success in RL - I imagine disproportionately so versus the larger but more plodding and regimented population of European heritage

Without a shadow of a doubt I am not in agreement with the stereotype but this is the reality of players plucked from Port Moresby and dropped into the NSW limelight....I believe 7 of the first success hunters were picked up by clubs (panthers took 3 IIRC)....all were dropped back inside 7 months with "training ethic" cited as a great reason.
Sir Stanley of Hull was a true exception to the rule!

Could it be age rather than culture? It being more difficult to adapt for players stepping up at ~23/24 than having been involved with an NRL team since their teens? That rather falls down, if those picked up were 19-21.
When Stanley Gene came across in the mid-90s, Rovers were part-time and outside of SL so in fairness the learning curve was likely less steep - rugby wise at least. His autobiography is an interesting study in culture shock and adjustment. Arriving in winter, he was stunned to see a blighted country in which all the trees were ‘dead’, and admired the bravery of a people facing such devastation so calmly.

His AB was a great read.......might pick it up again now you've pricked my memory.
The "work ethic" thing is a massive part of NZ culture here......PI players have to work twice as hard to get an AB's shirt in my opinion and our "stars" are always European...........it's a latent racism.....and it is real, but that's a discussion for the sinbin.
PNG players will run through brick walls for you........it's the other stuff they struggle with,

| Manly have signed PNG duo Rahdly Brawa and Edene Gebbie.
Queensland Cup winning captain Ase Boas and younger brother Watson Boas have already signed for Featherstone Rovers while Wartovo Puara Junior and Stargroth Amean have signed for Barrow Raiders.
The PNG Hunters are turning into a conveyor belt of talent, which led to the national sides recent victory over England Knights.

1. Manly are crap and have been for a while.......CHEATING THE CAP AND STILL BEING CRAP TAKES SOME DOING!
2. Featherstone Rovers are in the Middle section of the 2nd tier of English RL
3. Barrow are at the foot of the 2nd tier of English RL
4. You really have a hard on for anything not English adding to the English game.....you remind me of another poster from L'chorley region of France ![Very Happy icon_biggrin.gif](images/smilies//icon_biggrin.gif)

| Wrong Manly, they have signed for Wynnum Manly in the Intrust cup not Manly Warringah in the NRL.

It's interesting that Australia's new Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, held talks with the PNG PM on the sidelines of the recent Oceania leaders conference about funding a PNG bid to join the NRL.
It's not a new idea, but Albanese is a true RL fan and is very likely to come good with the money to make this happen.
