| How was it anywhere near as good as Saints v Leeds though? Those teams did things like breaks, offloads and running with the ball. Did Salford score a single try that wasn't off the back of penalty piggy backs?

As an entertaining game both were good to watch. But in terms of top performances there weren't any from any of the sides involved. Scoring over 30 points and not winning a game suggests a lack of defensive effort. Missing 42 tackles and still winning a game....... Well....
Imagine if saints had done that in the WCC!

Sometimes high scoring games concentrating on attack instead of defence is a "breath of fresh air", if we see most games week in week out were defence is on top we get 5 drives and a kick which for a new neutral supporter is pretty boring to watch.

I thought the Saints Leeds game was juuuust about vindicated by exciting attack. The other game wasn't, it was just a low quality, zero intensity penaltyathon that Catalans never really looked like losing despite playing at about 40% of themselves.

Yes I agree about the entertainment factor- I'm just questioning Barrie's statement that Salford were "brilliant"

I don't disagree that the defence was wretched, but the attack partly made up for it ,whereas it didn't in the Salford match. In my opinion.

Yes but if both teams adopted a fully defensive orientated match we would probably be looking at half that amount of missed tackles with half the no of points and probably a borefest between 2 struggling teams. As it was it was an open game with loads of passing plays and became thoroughly entertaining as the result was in doubt up to the last 30 seconds.
Five drives and a kick, with loads of messing about around the PTB is putting me off watching super league , so the Saints/Leeds game gave me a bit of light relief, not sure if the coaches are too happy about it though.
I would imagine if new supporters were invited to the Thursday night (Wigan v Hudd game) and the Friday night (Saints v Leeds) they would probably want to see another game based on the latter one.

I agree- if you were new to the game you would want to see the Friday one. - but as a long time supporter would you want to watch your team miss 40 tackles every week?

I just hope Cunningham realises that the fans want to see us play rugby like that, rather than attempting to play like a poundland version of the NRL as we have. Saints have historically been at their best when playing open rugby with a smile on the face.

Thing is though against, say, Wigan or Warrington who are defensively much more structured than Leeds are with all their injuries and changes this year- would saints be able to play open rugby like that. Im not so sure they would.
