Quote: Starbug "Yep rich 70 odd viewings but only a couple of replies

If jamie needs a rest then why doesn't he suggest dropping Leeds down to the Championships with us'"

Leeds can't drop down. They're the elite. The cream. What an absurd suggestion that Leeds would muddy a stud on any Championship cow field. The Challenge Cup is bad enough. Off with your head for suggesting such a thing. Jamie sits amongst the Gods. Like Zeus, he can pass comment on mere mortals without ever having to suffer the fate of a decision which he thinks should be made.

Anyway, unitil John Wilkin speaks, such matters aint worth shoite.

I don't agree with his 10-team suggestion, the game needs to spread in this country.

At the moment we (UK rugby league) are still growing into a 14 team league - standards, as always, need to rise so SL teams are hitting the benchmarks set by their Aus/NZ counterparts. Two years before the next World Cup, the number of overseas trained players per club will fall to 5 (from 10 in 200icon_cool.gif and clubs will be required to have 8 home grown and 12 UK-trained players in their 25-man squads.

The size of the league definitely [ishouldn't[/i be expanded to 16 before the WC because I doubt the league would be able to do that and increase the intensity of matches across the board to something approaching NRL levels.

Yes yes yes , but none of this will give him either less games or more money , or both icon_wink.gif , will it ?

That was really witty tbf
It would make the games much more intense, NRL like however it would prove RL to be the minority sport it is.

I don't think it'll be anything but a minority sport .........ever.

So, might as well have it as the intensity of the NRL. Make it squeeky clean elite. Weed out the damp as well as the dry rot.

Bradford
Castleford
Catalans Dragons
Hull
Leeds
St Helens
Warrington
Wigan

That would be some comp. I just think some of the other teams could offer more in a few years.
We're seeing some positive steps from Huddersfield and I don't believe the doom mongering around Hull Kr, if they can get that debt under control over the next couple of years and I believe they will they could be a force

However, I still think we're heading to a 2 conference system and feeder league

Sounds like you've stumbled on a marketable name there.

Eddie Hemmings
"It's Fffffrridaaaayy night !!! Welcome to Farley's Feeder League. Tonights clash between Widnes and Wakefield will decide who goes straight into next week's Grand Final for that coveted prize - the chance to transfer their top players to a Super league club for 2013." It's live on Sky Sports Three and It just gets better and better .................... Don't go away, we'll be back right after these ......................"

but by cutting the numbers and making more money available to the elite teams... it doesnt matter where they are you could just create 10 elite teams and pay for elite marketing and sales teams to bring in the crowds... therefore it makes sense to chose the clubs based on the stadia available to play in...

so

1) Manchester Red Deyvils (playing at Old Trafford) basically the Saints/Wigan/Warrington and Salford squads... relocated
2) Glasgow Kilts (playing at Ibrox) Brisbane Broncos relocated
3) Newcastle Coals (playing at St James Park) Hull & KR relocated
4) Birmingham Backstabbers (playing at Villa Park) Wakefield/ Cas & Hudds relocated
5) North London Limpets (playing at White Hart Lane) Harlequins london broncos by any other name
6) Chelsea Boots (playing at Stamford Bridge) the best players from anywhere in the world (typical Chelsea)
7) France... (playing in France... or northern Spain sometimes)
the French national team - no need for relocation
(playing in Colwyn Bay) the Welsh National RU team playing off season to keep fit
9) A Token Traditional RL... (playing in a dump somewhere on the M62 corridor) made up of 65% australian imports on British Passports
10) Wellington Whales (playing on the beach) full of maori scary people... not many away fans!

seriously though I think we can begin to expand the game but I think we should look at the American Footbal conferencing system as a model.. and that would help with making the play offs THE major focus of our season....

Exactly.
Play your conference twice, the other once, top 4 from each, more teams, less games, hopefully on more Sky money everyones a winner

I think American sport is a farce - trades? drafts? best teams changing year on year? Not for me! It's all to friendly and backslapping for my tastes.

leeds have money, juniors, large crowds, a prosperous future.

on all counts they dont belong in the leagues for failed heartland clubs ie NL1 and 2.
