| Quote: bramleyrhino "I actually think that Wigan have handled this very poorly. They've succumbed to trial by media.
From the reports that are out in public. They were made aware of and investigated this incident five weeks ago when the bar manager reported it. From his comments in the Wigan newspaper, the matter seemed to have been resolved to everyone's satisfaction.
Only after the video emerged online and baying mob of social media grabbed their pitchforks does the club call the players into a meeting this morning and decide to take a "hard line" against the players involved. Within the space of 24 hours, we've gone from an incident that was seemingly resolved to one where Wigan have handed out a four match ban, £15k of fines and pretty much told one player to pack his bags. The only thing that changed? The fuel of social media.
Radlinski's comments are weasel words. Wigan are only "disappointed" because they've been caught out. They've handled this terribly.
There is no way that Wigan should have thought that, in the age of camera phones and social media, this would have just 'gone away'. They could have taken a strong stance on this issue give weeks ago and dealt with the issue without any of this nonsense.'"
Trial by social media is nothing new. The reality is always harsher if/when the evidence comes out. The club probably received a complaint and thought the pair were just being a couple of annoying ed-up idiots - I bet RL clubs acorss the country get a load of these every year. Seeing as we're doing a lot of assuming, you could also assume the bar manager never complained of physical assault or Wigan would've taken a stronger stance.
The club should be applauded for reacting quickly to the evidence coming out, versus the Hull club that did sweet FA on the Albert Kelly video.

| And they thought by offering money to them to keep quiet would be ok?
Is that the Wigan way?

| It does make you wonder whether Wane jumped because of this or was pushed because he was involved in covering it up somehow. that's the problem when you try to cover this sort of stuff up, nobody believes a word the club says.
It does put into perspective the nonsense Wane spouted re the club's culture and how they'd look after little Zak. I expect he'd look at that video and wish he was there.
As an aside I also agree with whoever said that seeing these supposed 'athletes' getting absolutely hammered during the season does make you wonder about the general culture of the sport. Its the same here with NRL players. Getting into trouble may always not be their 'fault' but how they end up hopelessly drunk out and about at all hours and yet claim to be top professionals is beyond me.

As can physical.
Both are bad, but one is worse as the physical harm is more instant and caused by someone else.

I don't think Wane would have taken it too kindly despite them being wigoon players, Wane is a very family oriented man and has always been protective with his 2 daughters in Megan and Bethan. Once Wane saw the abuse he must have thought what if they were my daughters on the receiving end of the Tomkins Abuse, he would probably have planted one on Joel.

| I can't imagine Wane jumping due to one incident.
Makes you wonder if there could be anymore incidents though that the club have kept under wraps. There have been a few drunken Wigan incidents over the last few years, and I can't imagine the signing of Hardaker will help that at all!

Leave them in the team. they are contributing greatly to Wigan's demise.

| Congratulations to the Wigan club on their swift and robust response to this incident; 5 weeks and a public shaming are, I'm sure, incidental to the wheels of due process that were already grinding to their inevitable conclusion - such is the strong culture of respect and family values at Wigan RLFC.
Anyone who is victim-blaming in this thread by the way - I'd suggest you go slam your knackers in a car door a few times.

| Brian Carney wrote a piece for sky sports after the Albert Kelly incident on how there was lack of leadership from the Governing body (RFL). The same will be done regarding the tomkins brothers.
If this was the NRL or another sport the governing body would not just sit in silence.
Why does the RFL choose to not get involved in incidents which clearly bring the game into disrepute.

| It's time that RL got it's house in order.
These types if incident are becoming far too common and yet again, RL is only making headlines for the wrong reasons.
Yesterday saw an absolute classic game between FC and Saints and yet all the newsprint is about 2 pillocks from Wigan that cant control themselves after a few pints.
It's high time that our professional sportsmen were, professional and not just for 80 minutes on a Sunday afternoon and the signing of Hardaker into the family club of Wigan looks like a disaster waiting to happen.

This is the Wigan Dark Arts, whats the odds the £10000 and £5000 fines are just empty gestures and not implemented. Hardaker got evidential representation from 2 Wigan Directors I suspect that was a freebie as well.

They might make Joel play for free. Radlinski can teach the art of that one.

Agreed. Since Wood left have the RFL actually done anything apart from two copy and paste statements from the previous year for the bash and magic. There is a complete vaccum of authority from the the RFL at the moment. The sport is on borderline crisis with pitiful crowds and awful on field antics becoming the norm. Someone needs to grab the sport by the knackers and sort it out.
The RFL need an integrity panel that dishes out harsh punishments for these sorts of incidents IMO
