Quote: dally messenger "yeah i understand the emotion over history ...

but i want to see RL as strong as it can be

new grounds are going to play a big part of the games growth

and even our traditional grounds have received lots of money being upgraded

eventually there might not be a place in the nrl for small grounds as crowds get too big for them, other than the odd nostalgia type game

ive heard lots of good things about station rd, but in reality it was a tip

so was tattserfield

lets be honest here, im sure you as a KR fan are happy with the improvements to Craven Park and look forward to further improvements.

lets get as many new fans as possible coming, including families and kids

these old grounds are intimidating for new fans to go too

the games future is more than the middle aged male demographic

we need much more kids, and women to attend games as well

edit '"

Have you been? It doesn't really have any character which is a shame.

I liken it to owning cars. I've had classic cars that I've loved and that you have a special relationship with, and I've had some very nice new cars that are easier to drive, more reliable, more comfortable, more economical etc yet if someone asked me to name my 3 favourite cars I've owned I'd name the classic ones every time.

Times move on, modern stadia are the future, the game will be better for them, but I will always miss the nostalgia of the "good old days" and cherish the memories of being at a packed Thrum Hall, Boulevard and old Craven Park.

The difference now is that the fans of some of the clubs whose stadiums are in those pictures will never see their team compete and beat the best , I have seem Leigh beat probably all the clubs currently in SL at Hilton park , I will never witness that at the LSV , thats why I preffered Hilton Park , it was all about the sport then , it was sport then

thats a fair post i guess

but the RFL has to do whats best for the game because where it was before SL was stuffed ...

some clubs will adapt to the new circumstances and prosper others wont ...thats life ...

the good old days arent going to get clubs anywhere today ....the sooner the realize this the better

It's a good job threads like this exist!

There was I thinking that RUGBY LEAGUE was all about what happened on the field and everything else was secondary.

Don't you learn something every day!

the good old days lead to a club game which was bankrupt ....

the club game in england has never really been this healthy ever ....

and this can be the case for clubs outside SL as well, as widne clearly show, and maybe fax ...

so you havent heard of the franchising system then huh ...where you been the past 5 years or so ....

RL games are determined by the best team on the day combined with luck, injuries and refs calls

but entry into SL and indeed success in it depends solely on a clubs achivements off the field

My you have short memory, i always thought Cougarmania was about the matchday experience and marketing and that the RL played was secondary to that.

Maybe we should go back to the days where we all turn up at games with our flat caps on, in troughs, dont let wimmin into the grounds, drink bovril, get rid of tannoys, forget music and cheerleaders, dont put games on telly except for the CC final and pay the players 2' 6p and a pie if they win the game.

In all seriousness I'm all for a couple of those points.
