Quote: wrencat1873 "As you rightly say, that just wouldn't sit right.
As beaten finalists, Fev are next in line.
That Toronto beat other clubs along the way is immaterial, Fev were the next highest rated club in The Championship.'"

In the final championship league placings Fev finished behind Toronto Toulouse York city knights and Leigh Centurions, meaning they actually finished in 5th at the end of the regular season, they won their place in the final of the knockouts, but they were still only the 5th best side in the comp. so don't you think that flaws your argument somewhat?.

No, the 'winners of SL' are the team that wins at OT, Grand Fonal night, Brdford once won from fifth, ,,,,,beat Hull 71 NIL if I recall. Winners are grinners, but next best are the team that plays the final game, the time building up to the that game is important, perhaps more important OFF the field than on....but important.

Present shiiiiite is more about what clubs bring off of the field, as much as on.

Fev should go up... BUT BULLS will. Why? The reason the game exists. Sport and money.

Original post.

Have great week Ladies & Gents.

Quote: JTCFJG "Folks, in these troubled times, we all need to take care of ourselves, our loved ones and our communities, but we all need to work out how our game can get through this for the good of millions in the RL family.

How can Rugby League ensure that we have an Elite Level at SL, a middle tier at Championship/Champ 1 level and also at community level in every small town and village up and down the country.

I have a suggestion for your comments and analysis. It is far from perfect, but put out their for consideration of fans and the leaders of OUR game. It takes into consideration that the game employs thousands of players, coaches, back room staff, coaches, admin staff etc. We MUST save our clubs and games.

Suggestion (in any case), when it resumes, it should be a smaller competition of the clubs that can pay all of its staff at either full time of part time level. whilst commanding the largest crowds that we can. Clearly the bigger games will command bigger crowds. (Only when that is safe of course) Perhaps eight clubs could manage that in terms of the crowds they could command for those bigger games. Those clubs could loan out the players on the edge, to smaller clubs to ensure that those players continued to be paid at least some wages and can also find other forms in employment to help in the community. The game & RFL could then perhaps agree a percentage from those bigger games taking, to loan (or maybe grants) to the clubs that agree to drop down rather than going bust. Say 10%? This should last for two seasons, starting asap and of course be reviewed after a shorter first season.

The clubs that cannot afford to pay their full time salaries could go part time in a Championship/Championship 1 Divisions
] and those players/staff could then be free find other employment in the community whilst keeping the game going, as above. Many will need to find other employment in any case IF clubs cannot survive. Better than to have part time clubs than no clubs at all maybe?

It is clear that our RL communities are likely to suffer more than others elsewhere, a majority of our men work for themselves and many of our women in the public services. Whatever we can do to support them, whilst saving the game at every level, the better.

This post is meant for discussion to look at the bigger picture of the current times AND the bigger of how we save our game for the future. Yes there will be problems and arguments. There always has been sine 1890!!! Now is the time we influence our own game and lives, by working together to save the game.

We will NOT have a Sugar Daddy coming in saving any of our clubs or the game itself. Sky will not save us unless it is financially viable. The BIGGER games sell more. WE need to influence Leaders.

Submitted for sensible responses.'"

Why should fev go up?

Let’s have yet another northern pit town with 30 fans on sky with a load of semi pro players. That will raise the profile of the game

But it’s ok cos “hEaRtLaNdS”

It's only fair. They were the next best 'team' last year. FACT.

He seems to be jumping the gun on "meeting the team"............ he is the team icon_biggrin.gif

Thanks for that we can see where this all goes, which will be fascinating given the collapse of TWP.

It really is a shame we still have people who (claim to) support our great game, but cannot see beyond the end of their nose.

I don't think they'll get kicked out myself, i think a club MIGHT come in for the rest of the year but that would be it.

Should rule out Bradford then

Said it before and I’ll say it again, why would any team be cherry picked to replace Toronto when it’s almost easier to run an 11 team comp?

Ok I hadn’t originally thought about the magic weekend showcase so that’s a good point but still doesn’t outweigh the minefield of promoting another team at random.

I’m assuming this is all for 2021 by the way as it seems to have gone quiet on a replacement for this year. I know Fev offered to set up but that would have been a massacre in my opinion

Not really not unless there's Canadian TV money and Canadian players. Let's have a close look at the Perez plan.........

[i“There will be very few Australians or Kiwis in our first couple of years(1) and we’ll recruit as many Canadians as possible (2). “We’ve got players in our sights that have played in Super League, some that have been in the Championship for a long time, some in League 1 and some that have been in Super League systems that haven’t got a crack at first team football.”[/i

1. Sounds good doesn't it? But look closer and work out where Perez wants to be year three and that's Superleague and he doesn't discount Aussies or Kiwis at all in year three - I wonder why? Nah I know why icon_lol.gif
