Quote: Roy Haggerty "Hard to see any result other than a Wigan win in the final. Unless Cas are going to pull an unexpected performance out of the bag tomorrow, Wigan should take that at their place.

And while Warrington were deserved winners tonight, it was hard to avoid the conclusion that they played to nearly their best, while Saints were suffering the same mediocre form which - as others have pointed out - has been ongoing now since mid-season. Wigan will offer a lot more in attack than Saints did, and their defence out wide is far better than Saints who carry a non-tackling scrum half and a non-tackling fullback.

Saints have a big problem though. They cannot win when there is any pressure or expectation on them. The only big game they've won in the last seven years was the 2014 Grand Final, and notably, nobody expected them to do so and they were rank outsiders. In literally every single big game for the last seven years where Saints were expected to win, they've lost. That's the worst record of choking in my rugby league watching history of 30 years.'"

You can’t be as myopic as you appear. There are no certainties in sport that’s just been proved. On the night Cas are imo a slightly better team than Wigan, yet you seem incapable of seeing past two very average Lancashire teams - pathetic really.

This defeat has been on the cards all season and I predicted it with many others early doors.

All this media and Saints fans driven crap that they were leagues ahead of every other team was utter nonesense - anyone with a RL brain could see that - show ponies nothing more.

I saw Wakefield play them twice, beat them once and get robbed by the ref in the other game.

Wakefield are not a great team but a good one and had far to much resolve for Saints. Any team with a bit of spirit can beat teams like Saints - we did, Catalan did and now a fairly talented team in Warrington have.

Saints fans deserve all the ribbing they are going to get - biggest flops in years, at least Cas made it to the final last year and have recovered since.

Hell even Leeds beat them at their place with a weak bench and only lost by a point at home and we’ve been awful this season.

What Saints had was the better luck with injuries and were near their first choice 17 more than others barring Walmsley. Just like Cas last year and Hull in 2016, the league season has become who has the better luck with injuries.

I think he'll probably rank a little lower than Dave Lyon, never mind those two.

Well done Warrington, I thoroughly enjoyed that.

It would be great to see another club win the G.F. just so their fans could experience the undoubted joy of seeing the trophy held aloft. It's become so boring seeing the same "cup rich" clubs winning again & again, with their fans thinking it's some sort of gimmie.

Great game, very enjoyable for the neutral. Hoping Cas can do it si we can have a new winner, this will give SL a boost.

The Wigan fan in me obviously wants us to win tonight then again next week. The rugby league fan in me won’t be too disappointed if Cas win and we see a new name on the Trophey.

I don’t think we see it as a gimme at all but it’s up to other clubs to deny us, you’d think Leeds and Wigan should just roll over and let a new team win it for “the good of the sport”.

Been in the exact same spot the previous 2 seasons after the first SF with 3 teams remaining...2 of them with no GF’s wins and 1 with plenty.
2016 - Warrington already in the GF, Wigan vs Hull
2017 - Cas already in the GF, Leeds vs Hull
Same scenario now, it’s up to those “new” teams to put their name on the trophy.

Well said - I was beginning to wonder when, in the midst of laughing at King James or blaming Ben Barba, someone would acknowledge Wire's performance, which I also thought was excellent.

Great game for the neutral - intense, fast, really tough and a close finish; can't ask for much more when you don't have a dog at the races. I hope tonight's game is of the same quality, and that somehow, both teams lose.

Warrington played very well, three tries to one proves that. They never gave up and deserved it.

1 major final appearance compared to Warrington's 7 in recent years.

For all the lauding of Holbrook can we compare his achievements with Steve Price? (This is Price's first season btw).

Taken Warrington from the middle 8s to both major finals.

Depends. If Wire end up losing both then there'll be the same questions asked about Price and his side's temperament as are being asked about Holbrook and Saints right now. However, if his boys lift the silverware then he'll (rightly) be regarded as having achieved something very special.
