So now we know.

Or rather now we have a better idea!

Can anyone advise who are the 5 overseas loaves and the two non-federation fish?

Disappointed they will only have 10 overseas players in the squad, hopefully they can sign a couple more before the season starts.

Quote: Talent Spotter "Gotta feel for Nottingham Tiger. Spent Weeks on the Salford forum telling us Chase wouldn't get a visa and has now desperately moved onto this.'"

This.

He's been hiding behind a persona of intelligent debate, and to be fair, is much more welcome than the average name-calling jokes we normally get. However, there's a scale as to when debate turns into obsession. Credibility starts to wane. His cautious, but strong line on all things law related, backed-up with supposed knowledge in the field helped his slow-burner attempts at unsettling ideas and attitudes. Now that this argument did not stand-up to scrutiny (Although I'm sure he will swear blind that his were just opinions based on what was known and not actually being in the know) further attempts to quell his Salford obsession are being met with a little more derision. Rightly so. Actual points of debate are marred by continual picking at something Salford has done or doing. Anything that may be valid for debate is met with ever more apathy as his crusade is starting to subdue any argument of worth.

Some people on here have an odd perspective.
Firstly, I am not anti-Salford (in fact I don't think I have posted anything about the clubs for weeks!). I have said many time - I think that the more clubs in SL that are financially secure the stronger the competition will be. Salford are now one of these clubs and they will add more competition and hopefully increase the popularity of RL, which can only be a good thing.
Secondly, I always said Chase might get a Visa. I thought it was unlikely, but Salford's legal team got it through and fair play to them. At the time, it was a reasonable debate to have.
I also think raising the point about non-fed players is a fair debate. At this moment in time, the limit is 5 and Salford have signed 7. If this was any other club I would raise the same question - in fact I was very critical of the way Hull KR manipulated almost every loop-hole available to pack their squad with overseas players a couple of years ago.
I am sure that if you would rather fill the forum with name-calling and insults there will be many who would oblige. However, I think all my posts tend to be reasonable and raise ligitimate issues.

Quote: roofaldo2 "Tbh, I doubt Koucash has any interest in things like quotas. He's pretty much made it clear that he's going to circumvent the salary cap.

And IMO I think that challenging the quota rules is a good thing. There's very little real quality players in SL and the introduction of additional teams at the same time the number of available players was reduced was a ridiculous idea on the RFLs part'"

Your having a laugh. The federation and home grown rule is the single best thing that has happened to RL in this country for longer than I can remember.

We were in a position where most clubs were full of overage antipodeans and youth didn't stand a chance. Now all clubs have to have some sort of youth system and players are coming through again. The problem with the overall quality stems from the clubs not being allowed to sign the quality of imports they used to.

Well hopefully we do,Maybe even sign Sandow and if you ask really nice we might loan you one of our Half backs so you dont all have to watch DJ and Miller all season long.Cant lend you Chase though because he cant get a Visa to play in Hull.

Quote: Early Bath "You have a bee in your bonnet about this NT. So if RFL decree then Smith goes back to Trinity & the Wildcats repay and the club goes to the wall. Is that what you want? Or a similar situation at Cas & when Rangi returns Cas - who are skint anyway - will have to renege on the lucrative contracts to the new lads who will become free agents again Is that what you want?

At the end of the day - being realistic - the monies invested with Cas & Wakey is desperately needed. If one of the deals fails then one of the clubs fail Surely you do not want to see this.'"

IF Salford sign too many overseas players (Brett Hodgson also rumoured), it is their own responsibility and not the responsibility of the clubs where the players previously played.
Therefore, they would be liable for the players contracts. nothing to do with Cas, Wakefield or whoever else.

Actually it would seem that all the clubs knew something we didn't.

Allegedly this was all agreed along with the running down of Club Academies.

In the very short term it makes sense. Academies eat up money, so cut the academies, clubs may become more profitable (make smaller losses) for not having to run them and the short fall in players is made up from abroad.

However long term and internationally it looks like a backwards step.

I also wonder if the cutting of academies could have been anything to do with a cut in funding from sport England. I'm sure the RFL used to get a chunk of cash for spreading the game. But if that's been cut by central government, maybe the RFL can't subsidies and so the clubs have to make the cuts too.

Was our breif foray into developing RL at youth level entirely state funded?

Surely Chase being British! Is not on the quota. I'm sure there will be samoan, UK, and other Kolpak passports to consider too.
