Yep, it's usually as a result of people accusing them of being racist

But those that do hate everybody that's black so why out of all the black players do people voice their dislike of Bailey? perhaps it's not his colour that people dislike him maybe (like me) they dislike his actions. when discussing Chris Bridge's action that got him a ban, nobody defending Bridge from other posters suggested that it was because he is white as other players including black ones have done similar in their career.

| Quote: dark elephant in the room "What you have done instead is to state that the massive unpopularity Bailey suffers from is down to the colour of his skin. It either is or it isn't. If all you're saying is that in [isome[/i cases that's what it is, then fair enough, I've no doubt that there will be some people who do indeed dislike him purely on racial grounds, but I think where you and I differ is on our belief of how prevelent that particular circumstance is. I believe it to be in the minority, you appear to believe it in the majority.'" I can live with the final sentence as a conclusion to this discussion.
Quote: dark elephant in the room "So what's the main reason behind many people disliking Ben Cockayne? A deep rooted prejudice against people who ... no, sorry, I'm at a loss. Both players play the game right at the very edge of what is acceptable on the field of play. Both players are either loved or hated/disliked. There is no difference.'" You think Cockayne is as discussed on here as Bailey? I don't.
Quote: dark elephant in the room "In your case, you are immediately prejudiced against people who outwardly show/say that they are not fans of Ryan Bailey and automatically assume that they have some kind of deep rooted racially motivated prejudice.'" And how does my perceived prejudice manifest itself?
Quote: dark elephant in the room "And yet people who dislike Bailey fall in to the "dark elephant in the room" prejudice. It would appear that you're not evolved enough to recognise that so many people en-masse may just have formed a negative view of Ryan Bailey on anything other than the colour of his skin.'" Again, that their opinions are based exclusively on this issue are your words, not mine. You're having an argument with yourself.
Quote: dark elephant in the room "I would say there are others in the league who are probably worse, agreed.'" And yet they don't appear to attract the same level of ire. Why is that do you think?
Quote: dark elephant in the room "I'm afraid you've hit a dud note with that one, try again. You still seem to be under the impression that I foam at the mouth whenever Bailey takes the field willing for him to be sent off, or some such. I don't, I simply dislike the way he plays the game, and the same goes for many other players in the league. It's simply part of being a Rugby League fan.'" Then I think I have hit the nail on the head actually. Because if a prop forward does not play the game aggressively in an effort to dominate his opposition then, IMO, he's not playing the game properly. It's probably precisely because of the way he plays the game that he's earned domestic honours and international recognition and been continually selected by a string of very succesful Leeds coaches and retained by the management ahead of players like Dowes, Carvell, Scruton and Burgess.

| Maybe because they got better offers elsewhere?
Or no one else wanted Bailey.
Either way, any valid argument you might have had is swept way utterly by the overwhelming idiocy of the majority of your postings

Spot on. I think we've heard enough from the Bailey fanclub now, so can we have this thread locked please.

Nice level headed post well thought out with a brilliant insight.
He is not a s@&t prop. To play at any team in super league (even one at bradfords level) makes him not s@&t. He isn't the best player in the league but for me he is either well over rated by some or underated by others. He isn't a James graham or Jamie peacock (cannot think of a good Bradford prop sorry) but he does a job and is a solid player in a squad game. Personally glad he plays in our team

| Those that get upset with the whole TMFMISL (or whatever) thing ought to have a read through the Bailey thread on the Leeds board. They have clearly missed the joke, and in fact their anti-Bailey hysteria is the very thing which keeps it going.
As for all this dirty/cowardly stuff, most of it gets shown up for the vapourware it is when pressed, apart from examples that every self-respecting prop in RL would have done at least as often as Bailey over a 10-year period.
Bailey's ACTUAL record is what G1 is talking about on this thread. Not factually incorrect memories of Bailey's supposed thuggery.
A classic is the Radford-Bailey incident (almost as bizarrely mis-remembered as the time the current Leeds coach apparently floored the whole Leeds pack, which the video clearly shows also never happened). I watched the video of it expecting to see Radford receieve a dreadful deliberate elbow to the mouth and pummel Bailey toe-to-toe in a manly fashion. Because that's what Hull fans said happened. In fact Bailey barely touched Radford, who responds with a rain of blows on a prone player. Radford's attack was as cowardly as they come (and also suggest he's a rubbish boxer given he also barely connected). Go check out the video now, have a look, and pretend you don't know it's Bailey involved. If it wasn't Bailey, everybody would be wondering WTF Radford was thinking.
Even worse, why was Radford applauded for that? If Bailey is hated solely because of his actions, why wasn't there a ten page thread arguing for Radford to be shot? Why wasn't there a running 20-page thread about Barrie McDermott whilst he was still playing. He was FAR dirtier than Bailey.
That's what G1 has alluded to. He's simply asked why people dislike Bailey particularly, when there are other dirty players around the league - including at Leeds.

I find Bailey irritating, his attitude and the manner in which he conducts himself is the reason for that. I agree that he isn't a dirty player, he's certainly an agressive player and I'd probably say the way in which he plays the game can, at times, be unsporting. Saying that, would I think this if he played for Bradford or would I simply be like the Leeds followers who laugh at the opposition fans for allowing themselves to be wound up by Bailey? Pretty certain it would be the latter.
This is clearly part of his "value" as a member of the Leeds pack as he has the ability to get under the skin of the opponents and rile them, whereby they lose their heads and not him.
I think you've played down the Bailey/Radford thing a little there though, the needlessly over-aggressive wriggling about on the floor by Bailey where he looks to at least make some contact with Radford's head with the ball carrying arm was a bit OTT, but agreed that Radford is a numpty for his reaction.

| Bailey does get into too much niggly dirty stuff (what team doesn't have a player like that?), but i think people on here who like to say Bailey is a rubbish player must only look out for the bad things just to be able to criticise. If you watch him fairly you'll see he is actually a good prop, not great, but good. He never has nor ever will be in the class of Graham, Peacock, Morley who are/been great props, but on his day he can be a real handful.

| Quote: 4thchoicecentre "To keep this on track, Bailey's pushed the ref in my eyes this is him following a line of stupid behaviour as a player.
Agreed I've seen worse however you can't push the ref, now I've not seen the CC semi-final 2010 so I cant vouch for his performance. However I am constantly surprised to see him still in the Leeds Squad considering the quality of players around him. I can't remember a "great" game from him personally (again from my memory).
Perhaps the coaches see something I don't, maybe he's a good player and I'm blinkered?
Again I go back to Brown incident, I don't see how Brown getting high shotted is Browns fault. Bailey picks him up and smacks him one for no reason, he goes looking for it against a smaller player. Thats how I personally see Bailey every game, which is very different to how I look at players like Peacock and Leuleui.
Again my thoughts, my opinion, stupid play from what could be a good player.'"
Kevin Brown is constantly verballing other players and refs - sooner or later he is going to get what is coming - he has always been like this. We are not party to the nature/content of the on-field sledging and we don't know what led to this incident. I personally have no truck with Kevin Brown getting an occasional slapping - perhaps if it happened more often he might start concentrating on his game and fulfill the undoubted skills he has.
He reminds me of Darren Turner - who was like this until Tony Kemp's right hand showed him the error of his ways.

Example one
Best post I've seen in a long while this. Is that really the best you could think of
Just to complete some of the details you seem to have missed:
Example 1:Is Luke O'Donnell not one of the "Big Boys"... Bailey certainly didn't hide from him, in fact I believe the common term around he would be that Bailey "owned him"
Example 2: Radford is sent off for cowardly attack on prone player. Bailey stays on the pitch. Leeds win crucial game.
Rumour: U20 player hastily withdraws slanderous allegation from Twitter and no RFL enquiry/police investigation takes place despite your "rumour" of criminal assault....
